    Leaking windscreen group action

Is there a group action for a leaking windscreen, it seems to a big problem. There’s a lots of members of the forum experiencing the issue.

I’m on my second Discovery the first one leaked when it was 12 months old and it was repaired, when it was 3 years old it started leaking again and repaired a second time.

My 21 reg started leaking last week and I still don’t know if Land Rover are going to repair it. Taking it to my local dealer next week hopefully by then I’ll find out is Land Rover are going to fix it. Big Cry

MY 21 3.0 D250 S White, 20in wheels, twin sun roof, privacy glass, heated stirring wheel, roof rails, side steps & mud flaps and dash cam front & back..
Gone 17reg 2.0 SE Silver, 21in black wheels, privacy glass, roof rails, side steps.

2024 Discovery 5 - Windscreen leak from top

Sadly not surprised... My 2024 Disco is now leaking from the top of the windscreen. I can actually feel it is loose at the top.

I've just taken my 2024 Disco 5 to LR main dealer, who are about to see if it will be an in-warranty repair .....errrr yes it should Evil or Very Mad !!

Fuming as just had a call saying maybe not because the windscreen has a crack in it.... the crack just came, as a result of no impact ....my point to them is the windscreen is flexing - that is the cause of the crack!

and in any case the crack, about 30cms in length from the bottom, does not change the fact the windscreen leaks from the top.

Oh my oh my.... will keep you posted on the outcome.

(and like the OP, I previously had a Discovery 4, and yup that windscreen leaked in water from the top side too.... )

From my observations, I cannot help thinking there is something wrong with the base seal adhering to the bodywork. For water to get into the car it’s got to get past this seal. See photo.

Whether water should be getting into this ‘buffer area’ off the roof in the first place is another question. Surely the outer rubber trim should be offering some resistance to water ingress between it and the bodywork, in the first instance ? Sealing the interior should not be reliant on just a basic strip stuck to the bodywork below the roof line? If water does get into this interstitial gap where is it suppose to drain to?

That being the case there are two breaches occurring. But without seeing it with the windscreen removed it’s hard to undertake meaningful examination.

What’s also concerning is that it seems to be commonplace for windscreens that have been “resealed” to leak again after 2-3years. This cannot be national incompetence of windscreen technicians. There must be something inherent in the design / manufacture that’s lifting the seals with time.

Maybe that crack just might, somehow, possibly, suddenly, extend into the drivers view to the point that it contravenes dept of transport safety regulations and the windscreen MUST then be replaced (and resealed) to validate your insurance which they will cover minus your excess. Just saying. Whistle

Sorry for the delay in replying my Discovery was in my local JLR dealer for 3 weeks and I had a loan car which would have cost over £1000 if paying for it myself.

The repair wasn’t covered on the extended warranty and we were waiting for JLR to decide if they were going to fix it as a gesture of good will. In the end the dealer paid for the repair themselves and they told me they would peruse JLR for the cost of the repair.

I’ll keep the car for a bit longer and probably change it next year before it starts leaking again. The dealers have always been great but JLR’s customer services is dreadful. My past 5 cars have been Land Rovers, three of them being brand new which counts for nothing with JLR this will be my last.

I am afraid that’s par for the course as far as JLR are concerned and their dealer whipping boys.

I love to drive the Discovery and I would like to update my car for a newer low mileage model, but tbh I am concerned when 2024 models still have the same annoying windscreen issues and the intransigent nature JLR regarding what is or is not a warranty repair. I could be jumping into more years of infighting.

If it weren’t for the niggling windscreen issue I would hang on longer than usual to the “devil I know”. In fact I may consider taking on the cost of replacing the windscreen and get all the seals sorted at the same time. Cheaper than paying tens of thousands for a newer car facing the same issues.

Having said that I will be looking at other brands in the new year. The double whammy of annoying faults and dealers who have their hands tied by intransigent owners are too big a gamble.

I’m the same I love driving the Discovery and it’s going to be a hard acted to follow, it’s set a high benchmark. I’m looking at down sizing perhaps a BMW X1 or a Mini Countryman 2024 model
