The longest distance I've driven in mine was when I picked it up back in November of 2024. I drove it from Aberdeen to Scrabster for the ferry back to Mainland Orkney then a few short hops via local ferries to home. A total distance of around 250 miles.

It had already been driven the 400 miles up from the midlands to Aberdeen by the sales manager the night before I picked it up and signed for it, which the small indy dealer I bought it from did for free as part of the sale. So it had covered a distance of 650 miles in 2 days.

When I picked the Bling Barge up in Aberdeen, it was the first time I had actually seen it in the flesh... outside of many in depth videos and hundreds of photos from the sales manager (and garage owner) during the sales process....I bought it in a cash sale, totally sight unseen with no trade-in since I kept my D4 for a while and sold it privately. Buying any car sight unseen, especially from a very small indy car dealer at the other end of the country certainly isn't for the faint of heart. Laughing

Would I do it again? That would entirely depend on the salesman on the other end of the phone. With the small indy dealer that had the Bling Barge (which was the only 4x4 SUV on their small forecourt)...nothing I ever asked was too much. They fully serviced it, put it through a fresh MOT...even fitted some mudflaps for free just because I asked. The garage owner also delivered it free of charge halfway up the UK in person, just to physically shake my hand on the sale. I'd certainly buy a used car from him again...he fully earned and well deserved his small business's unblemished 5 star customer reviews in my eyes.

As for the Bling Barge itself, besides a couple of age related niggles like the 2 window regulators that I've replaced and the reversing camera that failed the other day, it runs as sweet as a nut and I have absolutely no regrets. The small indy dealer went above and beyond throughout the whole sale process...and when it comes to second hand D5's, I still reckon I picked a good one. I discovered by chance (during a phone conversion with a Land Rover main dealership) after I had bought it and according to the registration plate, the Bling Barge had been an ex JLR management car. Thumbs Up

Strangely enough, the first picture I ever took of it was sat outside just after I got it home and unloaded our bags...

I don't think i could buy like you did. I have serious trust issues when a lot of money is involved. I found mine locally. I had looked at a few, but none had done the cam belts, or were prepared to have them done. This one had been done by a local independent, paid for by the seller along with a service, before it went on sale.
I have the feeling it has been a motorway car to be honest, but it does have a full service history with Land Rover with the exception of the last service and cam belt.
I did the rear brake pads the other day, they were Land Rover that came out too.
My biggest concern really is that i don't do lots of motorway miles, but the 2.0 was out of the question. Will just have to give it a run every now and then and regular oil changes.
It's in for MOT on the 3rd Feb, so fingers crossed.

Believe me, I have the same trust issues when I'm spending car sized money over the phone. The sales manager had his work cut out when I bought the car from him. Laughing

I usually buy my cars privately, since I rarely trust car dealers so I'm fairly used to giving them the second degree after I've bought them. Even after I got the Bling Barge home and feeling confident that I had bought a good one, it was in my workshop within a few days and I tore it to bits looking for signs of neglect or abuse through lack of maintenance.

Even though it had a full 64,000 mile service at the garage, including all 5 tyres being replaced before they delivered it (it had cheapish tyres on it which I didn't like), I changed all the filters and fluids including a full gearbox, transfer box and diff service, replaced the timing belts and cam pulleys...since they hadn't been done. I also flushed the DPF unit as well as flushing and replacing the coolant and brake fluid and regassed the HVAC system.

Even though the dealer service history only went as far as 2021, I also got reams of physical paperwork detailing everything it had done to it post 2021 through an indy 4x4 garage, it was very comprehensive. It also had a spotless MOT history with not so much as a single advisory... which is a rough guide to how it was looked after prior to me buying it.

I still reckon I was lucky and got a good one, but no, remotely buying an expensive car over the phone isn't something I'd recommend to anyone. Wink

This one is the most i have paid cash for, my last 2 were on PCP and i wanted out of that. Currently looking to get my daughter out of hers too. ( she really wants a classic defender)
I will be doing my diff oils and transfer box / gearbox in the summer. This car has to last me now, so i don't see the relevance for me to have the on line service history. It wont mean a thing when i finally replace this car, don't think it will be worth much.

Awesome. Looks a lovely motor. Thumbs Up

Definitely plan some longer trips too, as they are a great car for road trips... My favourite has been the UK to the absolute bottom of the heel of Italy, leaving home at 4AM on Day 1, and arriving at our holiday let at 2pm on Day 3. My wife won't share the driving, and I'd had 3 hours sleep the night before leaving. Thank God for Red Bull and a comfortable car! I think it was a shade under 1,500 miles.
