    Reversing camera died.

My reversing camera has decided to give up the ghost and die. Found a brand new OE replacement camera on eBay for £100.

It's probably the damp got to the electrical connector so once I fit the new one I'll have a look at insulating and sealing it better. I can't find any helpful vids or forum topics on how to replace it so it'll be a matter of taking screws and bolts out until it falls off. Laughing

Common sense would suggest it needs the trim panel removing from the inside of the tailgate, so I'll start there...

I'll post a how-to thread with pics or video when I've sussed it out. Wink

What are your symptoms, is it just no picture on the screen or are you getting an audible warning too?
On the D4, if you have a rear bumper sensor go down, the damn camera stops responding when you need it the most, fix the sensor and the camera jumps back into operation.🙄

I really don’t think Landrover thought that one thru.

I got a warning message on the screen telling me to contact the dealer instead of the normal reversing camera view. The rest of the cameras are fine. On the 360° view, the tailgate camera isn't giving an input and the camera icon for it shows up yellow...haven't really checked it out yet since it only went down this afternoon when I was leaving the local shop and it got dark at 3pm... but I'll test the sensors using the old mobile phone method. It would be a nice fix if it was just a dirty bumper sensor. Thumbs Up

I really don't want to go stripping bits off as I'm heading down to Inverness on Wednesday for this security/software update...if it's not a quick fix that doesn't require me changing the camera unit out, it can wait till I get back. The replacement camera unit also won't be here by Wednesday so I'd rather wait until it's here before I go taking the tailgate to bits.

    It's really easy.

    1. Remove the torx screw from the handle inside the boot lid.
    2. pull off the panel inside the boot lid. Apart from the screw you've already removed, its just clips that pull off.
    3. Disconnect the interior boot closing switch
    4. Remove the interior LED lights
    5. Put the panel somewhere safe.
    6. Disconnect the camera washer hose
    7. Remove the (6 I think) nuts that hold the external trim strip in place. (don't remove the (3 each side) nuts that hold the lights in place).
    8. Pop the trim strip off.
    9. disconnect the camara cable from the back of the camera
    10. unclip the camera from inside the trim strip.
11 do all of the above in reverse.

Many thanks Jon, that saves me unbolting a few bits I might not need to, not to mention searching around that interior trim panel for torx screws that aren't there. Bow down

I've got a big box of spare panel pins to replace any that might get broken.

I've previously replaced the LED light units on the bottom edge of the tailgate trim with brighter ones so I know they just pop out. I can remove and unplug them before taking that interior trim panel off.

I thought there might be an inner plastic access panel behind the interior trim secured by a gazillion Torx bolts like there is on the side doors... makes sense there isn't though with weight considerations on the tailgate lid.

It seems Land Rover has made getting to the inside of the doors and tailgate on the D5 a really simple task. Thumbs Up

Still waiting on my new reversing camera getting here. Due to the storm force winds we haven't had any ferries or flights to the island. No mail/parcel deliveries since Tuesday either.

Shop shelves are getting a bit bare and the local fuel pumps are out of diesel too, It looks like the winds will be hanging about for a few days yet, at least into next week, so no respite until the storm blows over to somewhere like Siberia.

Mind you, with the winds the way they are, I'd not be able to work on the Bling Barge even if the camera was here. Neutral

New reversing camera arrived today...now if only the winds would drop below 65mph for a bit, I'd get it fitted. Neutral

I watched the little mail plane coming in and landing at the island airstrip this morning...I'll tell you honestly, I wouldn't have been strapped in that thing without an ejector seat...full rudder, sideways crabbing and throwing it onto the deck...a pucker factor of 9.5 landing a small plane on our little airstrip in these winds, it was scary enough watching it from the ground. That pilot certainly put his big-boy pants on before heading in to work this morning... Shocked

Interested to see the new image being a new camera. Did you purchase your D5 on the mainland?

The image quality will be exactly the same I imagine since the new camera has the same OE part number as the broken one it's replacing...it's not a newer, higher resolution camera or anything. There might be a few less minute scratches on the lens perhaps...although before mine stopped working, it was perfectly clear.

As for the Bling Barge, I bought it from a small indy car dealer in deepest Englandshire, the south midlands to be more specific. There weren't many D5's for sale in the whole of Scotland when I was looking to buy one... none at all locally in the Orkney islands.

Mole HD - Please can you confirm the part number, I think I need to replace mine (2018MY) it's gone cloudy and no amount of cleaning clears the image Big Cry

    Cheers,
    Andy.

I'd advise against buying one direct from Land Rover, the price they're asking is in the realms of fantasy. There are plenty of genuine OE cameras for sale on eBay like this one. Most are from UK suppliers.

    OE part number is: FW9319H422AB - LR060915.

Can't get into my workshop or fit the camera outside as we've had storm force winds up here for over a fortnight without respite. I had to go out this morning and I struggled to get the car door open to get in...just as well I had pointed it into the prevailing wind direction when I parked it or the wind would have probably ripped the door off. The boot lid on the D5 also struggles to electrically open or close in strong winds... you have to manually pull it open and shut.

It's also the second time in a month of trying that I've had to cancel a pre-booked trip down to Inverness for the N877 security update on the Bling Barge as all the ferries have been cancelled, even the big Northlink ferries to the UK mainland aren't running...

We expect a bit of wind up here in the north sea but 3 weeks of unrelenting gales is getting a bit boring now. Nobody can get on or off the island.

The local shop has nowt on the shelves, the fuel pumps are dry, some folk are even running low on heating oil for their central heating since the fuel lorries haven't been able to get over. Neutral
