    Deployable Sidesteps

I bought my D5 Metropolitan 23 plate last July. It has the deployable sidesteps fitted which I think don’t work correctly. So here’s what happens,
If I select roof access mode both steps deploy (as they are supposed to) but then after 10 - 15 minutes they stow away again, according to the iGUIDE they should stay deployed until the car is locked.
If I unlock the car both steps deploy (as they are supposed to) then if I open the driver’s door, do whatever I need to and then close the door the step stows away after a few seconds (as it’s supposed to) now here’s the thing, if I don’t open the passenger door, the step stows away after 1 minute (as it is supposed to) then after 5 minutes the passenger side step will deploy again and stay deployed. This also happens visa versa for opening the passenger door and not the driver’s door.
I’ve been back to the dealership 4 times for this problem 😤
1st time they carried out a software update.
2nd time they said they cleared some debris from around the moving parts.
3rd time they diagnosed the motors and wiring looms were corroded.
4th time they fitted new motors and wiring looms. Then the technician said he had spoken to top dog regarding sidesteps and was told this is normal.
1st of all sorry for the long winded explanation but here’s my question, has anybody on the forum got deployable steps and how do they act ? As the iGUIDE says or haphazard like mine?

    Cheers Dicky

My old RR 405 had DSS. Roof access mode activated until either cancelled manually via the dash switch or the car was locked.

In normal mode opening any door activated that side step (not both) and they retracted a few seconds after the door was closed irrespective of the ignition status.

As an aside, when the motors fail (as they will at some point) go for after market parts they are 25% of the price of LR ones and are perfectly good.

Thanks for the reply, sounds like I need to try another dealership to see if they come up with the same b/sh#%. I need to get it sorted while it’s still in warranty.

Just came across this thread. This is also my experience. The steps operated as expected and described in the manual.

The only quirk missing from the manual, is that for roof access (keeping the steps out), the doors must be fully unlocked. I had the option set that only the driver's door would unlock, which resulted in a little head scratching at first.

Thanks for the reply, just confirms that mine aren’t working correctly.

I have just sold my 23 plate Metropolitan with deployable side steps.

If I chose roof access the steps would stay out even if I opened any doors until the car was locked and only then retract. When I unlocked the car both sides would deploy and stay out for about 1 minute. If the car was already open and the steps were retracted I could open the drivers side doors and only the drivers step would deploy, the passenger stayed under until the passenger side doors were opened. I never had the opposite side deploy on its own.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for your reply, more evidence for me to throw at the dealership regarding my malfunctioning steps.
