    IID Gap Tool or MyCarly

Just looking to turn off Auto Start Stop. The IID Gap tool is quite expensive and I’m guessing can do way more than I need or willing to dip my toe in.

The MyCarly seems cheap. Maybe the opposite end and not good enough? Just looking for anybody who has used MyCarly. And was it worth it? They have 20% off right now so just over £40.

It won't edit CCF's...that's solely the realm of the IID tool unfortunately.

In general or the Land Rover version? I had a BMW 335 and the MyCarly was able to turn off Auto Start Stop.

Also there’s iCarSoft which seems to say you can change settings on suspension and start up settings.

Land Rover have hidden the start/stop memory button function in the CCF's...sadly, there's only the IID tool that can edit those files outside of official LR software.

The CRMax from iCarsoft and others from Launch, Otofix and Autel are very good generic diagnostic tools and do most service related tasks on the D5 and other Land Rovers or Range Rovers...but they can't edit Car Configuration Files. That needs licensed and VIN locked diagnostic software. As of now and as far as I know, the IID tool is the only one.

That's the reason why so many owners of older Land Rovers or Range Rovers own an IID tool and swear by it...despite the hefty price tag. Generic diagnostic tools...there are a few well worth recommending, but an IID tool is solely for your car.

I'll have a dig through the Land Rover and D5 specific functions on my CRMax to see what exactly is available. The CRMax is an extremely potent generic bi-directional tool overall (even used on a D5)...but having an IID tool, I tend to leave the CRMax in it's nice carrying case on the tools shelf when it comes to using diagnostic software on the Bling Barge...the IID tool fits nicely in the space under the cup holders so it's always to hand.

I first bought the older Gen 3 version of the IID tool when I had the Disco 4...so it was just an upgrade for me to the Gen 4 version for the Disco 5...still very expensive as forking out for diagnostic tools go since there are plenty of very good generic tools available for the £220 pricetag I paid just for an upgrade.

As a Land Rover specific and VIN locked diagnostic tool, the IID tool delves into functions just simply not available on any generic tool thus far. Is it worth the huge expense for a tool that's only occasionally used? Until someone else comes up with vehicle specific and very powerful Land Rover dedicated diagnostic software for a home mechanic and Land Rover enthusiast to get their hands on at a lesser price...I'm afraid the answer is yes, it is. It's certainly earned back the money I paid for it in my case.

For the times when I've needed specific diagnostic and/or repair and maintenance funtions and used the IID tool on both the Disco 4 and the Bling Barge...it would otherwise have meant a lot more money than it cost overall being spent at a Land Rover dealership.
