    Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil.

One of the DIESEL sellers in my area has stated selling Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO). Same price as Mineral Diesel.
Has anyone experince of using HVO?

I may be missing something here but why risk changing, if it’s the same price?

    Unless it’s a “green” option?

Not sure driving a Discovery would ever be regarded as contributing to saving the planet. Very Happy

Lots of truck fleets switching to using HVO, and most latest gen truck OEMs have HVO-compatible engines, but I've not heard previously of people using it in cars. And normally, HVO is a premium over regular diesel. Fleets buy it to reduce CO2 emissions, without needing to go to other alternatives. It's also a drop-in fuel, so if you can't get it, you just go back to diesel again.

As above, we sometimes use it at work on our vessels. Basically to reduce the CO2 and change how much CO2 a project creates. I think it can reduce CO2 by 90%, but is usually a more expensive fuel.

The important note with HVO is to know where the ingredients have come from. Oils produced from areas that have required pristine rain forest destruction, for example are not good!

    Currently a D4 owner looking for a D5.

Tried messing around with it when we lived in the Western isles as one of the crofters had a processing plant built at his farm. We all used it in the tractors and farm vehicles, as well as those of us who had diesel cars. The hi-Lux I had at the time ran fine on it but I had to give it up as I was permanently starving...the exhaust fumes smelled like a chip shop. Whistle

HVO was...and is... an excellent idea since it's far cheaper to produce and an environmentally friendly alternative to imported mineral diesel...sold at the same or higher price due to profiteering through government taxation tied with a marketing effort designed to play on a too well worn 'Save the Planet' guilt trip to justify the pump price...it's really not worth the effort unless the desire to hug trees overcomes your common sense.

It's imported, just like the diesel you fill up with at the pumps...so it's not like it's growing new British industry or farming... or contributing to the economy except through the tax man.

Our chosen vehicles have a much longer lifespan than most other vehicles especialy those mobile firebombs (B.E.Vs.)
Green maters do not interest me.
My only concern is with the compatibility of HVOs in the light of the current siituation in the Middle East rerstricting the supply of Mineral Diesel and hence retailers selling HVO as an alternative.
