    I changed both camshft pulleys at belt change, as there have been instances on the V6 where they 'disintegrate' with the resultant catastrophic damage, For the cost of them it was a no brainer, £125 the pair.

    Replacing the belts (especially the rear) seems like an engine-out service and isn't called for on the TD6 engine in the maintenance specs? I'm at over 90k on my 2017 and seems to be running fine. What are the symptoms? In a gas engine I would expect rough idle and stumbling, screeching sounds, sluggish acceleration, smoke, and poor fuel economy, but in a diesel, as long as the engine gets cranked and the HPFP is fine, the SCR and general diesel compression ignition cycle should mask all of this until it fails?

    I think the spec is to change both belts at 7 years or 110k.

    It possible it will run fine for another 6 years or so, but as you say it's all fine until the belt snaps, then it's too late to change it.

    So for a few hundred pounds it's worth doing every 7 years, in my opinion.

    Had mine done last year… not an engine out job!!

    They did it in-situe.

    It looks like starter motor off and a lot of bending and twisting but, as you say, not an engine out job.

    Taking the starter motor off to access the timing hole in the flywheel is the hardest part, especially if you're lying underneath it instead of raising it up on a lift...that and having a capable assistant turn the engine over with a socket and breaker bar as you pop the locking pin in there.

    I was tempted to cheat and just paint a white line on the crankshaft... without locking the flywheel...but common sense prevailed and I did it properly. Whistle

    The fuel pump belt is easier than it looks, it's tucked away at the back of the engine next to the bulkhead but it's easy enough fitted with a bit of faffing about lying on the rocker cover to get in there. You might have to loosen and move the cross-over pipes and a few bits and pieces to get better access, apart from that, it's not too bad.

    @nebc100 what did your service cost?

    Did you have any symptoms?

    I just replaced my factory(!) battery this past February. My 2017 Td6 Disco has been, by far, the most reliable vehicle I have ever had. It's my first Land Rover, and no, I did not grow up in any Soviet Bloc nation.

    I had it done at the same time as a repair to the rear A/C cooling pipes. The total cost was approx €2000 but that included everything… replacement rear a/C pipes, water pump … everything.

    Indy garages are much cheaper. Prices vary from £650-£1200 on average. It's only a Ford V6 so nothing too complicated. Wink

    Mine goes in Wednesday to main stealer for service at 65000 miles and belts being done as 7 yrs old. A cool £1730 but beyond my capabilities. They very kindly didn’t charge for the loan car as I have extended warranty otherwise another £35 per day ( 2 day service). Don’t know about bling barge - more like sting barge!😂

    Similar, mine will have it next month - £1700. Local indy was quoting £1500 and they don't use genuine oil, filters etc - so once I supplied that stuff it's really no cheaper. So made sense to just take it to the dealers and maintain the full service history. It's a job I could manage myself but I don't have the time.

    Something I didn't check and will need to is whether the dealers change the camshaft pulleys as part of the standard service.

    It would be highly unlikely. You'd have to request that they replace them before booking the car in. Same goes for the water pump unless they discover the bearing is noisy or the pulley has excessive play...which means additional waiting for parts, etc, etc.

    Replacement cam pulleys are roughly £120 a pair. A trusted quality, branded (Graf, Ridex, Pierburg) after market water pump can range from around £70 upwards ...but as to what a dealership will charge you for their ridiculouly overpriced OE parts including fitting... Shocked

    Don't fall into the trap of thinking OE parts are somehow better quality or top of the range...because they have Land Rover stamped on them and they're more expensive. It's far from the truth.

    Excellent quality after market parts from trusted and well established brands are abundant. It doesn't mean you're cheaping out by fitting Wix or Bosch oil and fuel filters...OE parts have a Land Rover part number stamped on them... all that means is that they're of anonymous manufacture and you've no idea what factory in China churned them out at cost.

    As for indy garages versus dealerships when it comes to servicing and maintenance...Indies rely on their name and reputation in doing just that and to a high standard...Land Rover dealerships sell shiny new cars to make money.
