Pre/post face lift improvements
Is there much improvement in the 21plate onwards ? Need to buy another disco as my sons old disco 3 has died so he's getting my 17 plate and wondered is it worth stretching to a 21 plate ?
In particulare is the ride smoother as find the 17 plate a bit rough in comparision to similare age RRS but prefer the practicality of the disco

Yes. The biggest is that the engine is a straight 6 mild hybrid from MY21 onwards. It was the same V6 as the D3/D4 in the older ones.
Also "Adaptive Dynamics" became standard from MY21. It was only an option before. It improves the handling a lot.
Watch out though, the low range transfer box became an option on later models - not standard. Also a spare wheel became an option.
The infotainment also changed the the current PiviPro system in MY21. It was the InControl system before.

If you do have adaptive dynamics check all the steel pipes underneath serving the corners. They corrode and cost mucho money to sort. Its the main reason i sold my 405 autobiography. Beggars belief that LR would use steel in such an exposed high pressurised environment.
Personally i could not tell the difference with or without.

No pipes on the D5. It's done by electronic adjustment of the shock absorbers - just wires that go to the top of each shock absorber.
When I got my 2018 D5 with it as an option, I was talking to a previous RR owner who said it had been a problem but the D5 is a completely different system and I've never heard of any problem with it (yet).

Sorry yes you’re correct. I was confusing AD’s with active roll control. Does the later D5’s have ARC? If so my point stands. I had an adaptive dynamics fault on a 322… the fine wires coming off the top of the front struts easily chaf but a bit of insulation tape solved the issue. Common problem I believe.
cheers
