Provided it’s strong enough and fixed firmly to the tow ball it would seem adequate for the purpose.
After all, it’s only there as an anchor point to apply the trailer brakes if separation occurs. In most cases, the cable crimping will give way before the anchor point.
This just reminded me that many moons ago when faced with a similar deeply recessed brake cable fixing point like on my D5….i fitted a carabiner “extension”. It waggled about (so I was told by followers) when driving solo…. a bit like a long loop earring but it made hitching up a lot easier. Will have to see if attaching one to my deployable towball in any way impedes the deployment…..if not …it may save my knees a while longer.
