    Sun roof gasket seal replacement

Hi all, not sure if anybody else has got this issue so I’m just writing this thread for others to use if they get the similar instance. My Wife came to me the other day saying she could hear like air leaking in the sunroof when driving on the motorway. I’ve looked into this and it seems the gasket has shrunk all the time. The car is 2017 so it’s understandable that this has happened.. everywhere I searched a lot of places was saying you can only buy it as a complete unit for £600-£900 so I kept searching. I eventually found a website and I admit after using AI to look at asymmetric exploded views to get the part details and the code of manage the purchase one full brand-new genuine Landrover gasket continuous so it doesn’t need to be cut and glued it is a perfect fit. Out of the box, you could tell her the old gasket had squashed overtime.
    Replacement

The gasket is just a push fit with a barbed rubber edge to push into the sunroof edge system, I sound it’s best to start at the back which is the most difficult you have to offer the gasket over the sunroof and bring it back to the aperture to then start feeding 18 the very back part is easy. You can get your finger on it, but where it curves around the corner to return up each side of the drivers and passenger there is the difficulty you may find it easier to use a plastic to push it into place but take your time keep your hands clean and it does go in.
I found if you can get all four corners first, then when in certain the rest of the length for the elevation push it working it towards the corners not towards the middle so if you do have Access, you can lose it by pushing it back into itself towards the corners, not towards the loop of excess that you’re trying to get rid of.
I didn’t take many photos just purely because once you move your seats back and get up standing or kneeling on the seat you can see the gasket I’m talking about. It’s a bit like on the doors and windows of your house. It’s like a flip bubble gasket and the flip apart the blade the single blade is to go to the outside of the aperture not pointing in.

And these are a few pics of the old gasket

Once you have got the new gasket in place and seated when you try to close the sunroof, it will bounce back on final tilt, you need to press the close button again within two seconds of it bouncing to make it close to override the safety mechanism

    The Anti-Pinch Override Procedure

Land Rover includes an intentional override feature in the software specifically for situations where dirt, ice, or tight seals block the path.Push and hold the sunroof switch forward into the "Close" position and keep holding it down. When the sunroof hits the stiff gasket resistance and tries to bounce back, do not let go of the button.Continue firmly pressing the close switch forward. The system will realize you are forcing a manual override, disable the anti-trap mechanism, and force the motor to push through the tight seal until it latches closed. How to Let the Gasket SettleOnce you successfully force it closed using the override, use these steps to permanently fix the bouncing issue:Leave it closed for 48 hours: Keep the sunroof completely closed and parked in the sun if possible. The heat and constant pressure will compress and "seat" the new rubber gasket to fit the shape of your glass perfectly.Lubricate the edges: Apply a thin layer of Krytox or a vehicle-safe silicone paste directly onto the surfaces where the glass meets the new rubber seal. This drastically reduces the initial friction that triggers the bounce-back.Run a re-calibration: Once the gasket has sat compressed for a couple of days, run the 20-second calibration reset process we discussed earlier to map out the new closing resistance thresholds.

Once you do get the window closed and the blind you need to proceed with a reset and recalibration

    Calibration Steps
Turn on the vehicle: Switch the ignition to the ON position (the engine does not need to be running, but battery power must be active).Close everything: Ensure the sunroof glass and the fabric sun blind are fully closed.Press and hold: Press the front (close/tilt) of the roof switch and hold it continuously for 20 seconds.Trigger the cycle: After roughly 20 seconds, the sunroof will begin to move. Release the switch immediately, then within 5 seconds, press and hold the front of the switch again.Complete the sequence: Keep the switch held down while the sun blind and sunroof glass perform a full open and close cycle.Release: Once all movement stops completely and everything is closed, release the button. Your calibration is complete.
