Hi guys, Im a newbee to the D5 forum but have been active on the Disco3, Disco4 and Fullfatrr ones for a number of years now.
Bought myself a D5 last week which has 22's on it and Im really not keen on them. My D4 has defender wheels on it (19';s) and they transformed the ride because of the additional sidewall height
Im about to pull the trigger on some 20's for the D5 and cant decide on the two tone grey/siler or a straight gloss black.
Wondered what others were running and if you would share any pictures. Even if not on a Black car. I have seen one pic in a search on a dark grey with AT's on and thy looked pretty good. Filled the wheel well really well as well.
Anyway, Im sure Ill be back with other commenst and questions but for now Im just ticking off small jobs that the car needed and the reason I got it nice and cheap. Time to update my profile too now I have bought one.
I hated them because I wanted AT tires and they don’t exist for 22”
The car came with a second set of rims in 20” that had Goodyear Duratracs in them, so I sold my 22” rims and bought a second identical set in 20” and now have 2 sets of AT tires (summer and winter).
Since my D5 is Orange with the Black pack, I think it looks much nicer with gloss black rims.
Why not give the defender 19's from you D4 a go on the D5? I've been running 19" defender wheels/tyres on my D5 all winter and they did transform the ride - potholes, hopping up kerbs on narrow roads - no problem at all. Before that I ran 20's for a few months. I found the move to 19's and defender circumference tyres made a much more significant difference.
I'm back on the factory 22's at the moment, I tend to run those for the annual service/MOT and any long European road trips as I do find. the 22's ride nicely on motorways and smooth European roads.
I'll be looking to pick up a set of 20" defender wheels to put on my new defender this winter. My wife has started to complain that I have too many sets of wheels so one set of the discovery wheels will probably have to go
