I was told by JLR that my si6 MY17sept had electronic steering.

TBH I have gotten use to it. The steering seems stiffer when recentering compared to making an initial turn.
Tyres, 7mm and inflated correctly, wheel alignment all checked. It runs perfectly true on a flat straight road. I think we tend to adapt or get used to peculiarities.

That said, my boot is split and was planning to get it replaced at the next service. I will ask them to clean and lubricate the inners, in case the elements have penetrated and affected it,

There is no doubt “things” changed on several fronts after the security / software update. The rear seats for example needed recalibration and now the front passenger seat moves forward when the 2nd row seats are lowered…which it didn’t do before. I KNOW this because the wife has sat there several times while I lowered the seats to put her mobility scooter in the back. She never complained of being squashed against the glove box before now. I have yet to run that gauntlet this year!

Access looks challenging, possibly via the wheel well?

No doubt that mine is split. The joint is quite rusty, I'm not surprised I feel it's a little bit stiff.

Given a replacement boot is around £45 (plus time to clean up the joint, grease etc) and a genuine replacement joint with bolts is £176 from the dealer parts counter, think I might just replace the whole joint.

Baz8046 has just changed the boot on his so he'd probably know the best way to get it done. I've not even looked at mine...something I'll remedy during the summer I think.

    Thanks all,
Finished off the service today with no issues so all good.
Had to replace the lower steering column UJ boot as it was torn but I had spotted this when I inspected the car.
The joint did have some surface corrosion due to water ingress and was a little stiff.
I cleaned it up with some WD40 and then re-greased and all seems ok.
Also fitted a Ctek charging port to the rear panel to make keeping the battery topped up a little easier.
Looking forward to putting some miles on now and see how we get on.

Will crack out the workshop manual and see whether I can find it in there,

Like the CTEK panel mount port, very nice. I just have a NOCO lead inside the little cubby where the jack lives.
