    K&N Airfilter

    Hi all,

Im looking to upgrade the Air Filter in my 2020 Disco 3ltr SD. Ive heard the K&N stuff is pretty good. Whats peoples thoughts? Or am i just waiting to get EMS lights on the dash after fit?

You might be offered a few different opinions on the benefits of performance air filters, personally, I like them.

I fitted a TerraFirma-Pipercross performance air filter on mine a couple of years ago as par for the course... K&N performance washables are priced a bit too steep for my liking and are only supplied as a pair direct from K&N.

I only have a single airbox on my 2017 3.0L TD6 though, but the K&N's would be fine for your SDV6 besides being eye wateringly expensive. You'd have to buy 2 of the TerraFirma-Pipercross filters since they are supplied singular. (still less than half the price of a pair of K&N's).

Looking at twin pack performance air filters more sensibly priced than K&N, something like Britpart washable performance filters which also come as a pair...Maltings 4X4 online store (linked above) have the Britpart ones in stock as well which are similar to K&N in look and quality and are a decent option worth consideration.

That said, I fitted an overly expensive K&N washable cabin pollen filter at the same time as the Pipercross air filter. I also fitted K&N washable high flow air filters on my Harleys. Rolling Eyes

I've been using washable performance air filters for many years on my D2's, the D4 and now the D5 with absolutely no EMS or any other issues at any point. To me, it makes sense having washable air and cabin filters rather than paper element chuck aways...might be initially a bit more expensive but you only pay for and fit them once instead of replacing them for new every service, You just take them out, hose them off, a light spray of water resistant additive (or WD40) and shove them back in.

Just remember, if you ever hand your car over to a dealership or indy garage for servicing, tell them to leave the air filters alone or you might end up with some no-name paper element ones shoved back in there. Shocked

'Performance' air filters...will you notice any remarkable difference in performance? Nah...but they do have more efficient airflow than paper element and work out far cheaper to maintain in the long run, neither of which is a bad thing. Thumbs Up
