Oil & Filter and pollen filter
H
I have been quoted £449 for my 9th year service. Which I have been told is a oil and filter and pollen filter change plus inspection. This is at my local indie dealer. What are your thoughts?

For a basic oil and filter service (plus the inspection), the cost is around average for an indy garage. Anywhere south of £500 is pretty good.
You'd still be able to do it far cheaper DIY, especially since there's nothing too complicated in an oil and filter service. That said...I'm not in my 20's any more so I'd be somewhat content at under the £500 should it eventually come to me having to pay someone else to do it.
K&N do a washable pollen filter (currently out of stock) which never needs replacing. It's a bit on the expensive side compared to the throw away cotton/paper element type but you only buy and fit it once.
You just take it out, hose it off or blow it out with a compressor once a year and refit it.

Yes it is a shock to be honest. Suppose doing your own service over the years has kept me out of these prices. Yes being over 60 now and thinking I don't need to be crawling under such a big vehicle. But my brain still thinks 6 litres of oil and a couple of filters does not sit well when the bits are £100.

Depending on the engine type you can suck the oil out from the top rather than have to get underneath.
The SDV6 has a dedicated oil extraction tube in the engine bay and the D300 can be sucked out using the dip stick tube.
Not sure about the petrol engines or the I4 but I expect they are similar.
Both the filters are at the top of the engine bay so you don’t even get your hands that dirty.
You will need a vacuum pump but that will be paid for on the first service.

IIRC 9 year JLR service includes brake fluid change, autobox fluid change, auxhillary drive belt change, front and rear diff oil, transfer case oil,as well as filters, I dont think £500 will cover it from stealer!!!!!!
