Anyone here had an AJ20-D6 (D250/D300) turbo off the car?
Hello all. I'll be upfront: I'm not a Discovery owner. I'm an engineer in Turkey and I'm building a two-stage diesel setup around the BMW B57 turbo, which turns out to be the direct sibling of the one on your AJ20-D6 — same Garrett family, same frame, different actuator.
I've spent a few weeks trying to find out what's actually inside this turbo and come up completely empty. Garrett don't publish it, the trade databases stop short of it, and because JLR supply it only as a complete assembly, nobody has any reason to open one. So there is genuinely no public information about the wheels, the nozzle ring, or anything else internal. I'd like to change that, and I could use some help from people who've had these apart.
Given how many Discoveries are working for a living — towing, high mileage — I'm hoping someone here has had a turbo off a car at some point.
Has anyone had one removed, or got a scrap unit sitting in the garage? Photographs of the wheels alone would be more than exists publicly today. If someone can put a caliper on one, better still,
Has anyone had one rebuilt rather than replaced? If so, who did the work?
Does anyone know a turbo specialist who actually opens these instead of fitting a new assembly? A name is plenty, I'll do the chasing.
Is there anything below assembly level in the JLR workshop documentation? If anyone has trade access to a rebuilder's build sheet database, that would settle it in five minutes.
In return: it's Garrett GTE3071VZ, current service number 883403-5006W, superseding 883403-5004W. OEM references K6D36K682BH, LR154607, LR154609, LR125532; actuator 876378-0002. Its BMW twin is the GTE30VZK, 927765-5001S. They're the only two models in Garrett's GT30V series — but they are not listed as interchangeable anywhere, so treat "equivalent" listings with suspicion.
If I get one on the bench I'll post the measurements and photos back here. Thanks for reading.
