    D5 + Defender 20" Wheels - Tyre Sizes

    Has anyone fitted 275/55 AT or MT style wheels on their Discovery, using Defender 20" wheels? Did you find any limitations or rubbing?

    I have a 2025 D5 with standard 22" wheels. Tyre size is 285/40 with the normal Pirelli Scorpion Zero tyres. I believe this have an offset of ET45.

    I've purchased a set of Defender Style 6011 20" wheels that come with 255/60 tyres. The offset on these is ET41.5. From what I can tell this is a straight forward swap and is a great change for comfort and tyre options.

    What I would like to know is if anyone has fitted wider 275/55 tyres such as General Grabber AT3's. I know this tyre should be fine on standard Discovery 20" wheels but will the decreased offset give me any risk of rubbing with these wider, and blockier tyres?

    I have 275 55 20 AT3 on 20", could go wider theres plenty of clearance the difference between the offset on the rims you have is only 3.5mm so I can't imagine it will be a problem.

    An update

    So given that my 255/60 R20 defender wheels already sat close to the arches I tried to find a friendly tyre shop that would try on a chunkier 275/55 R20 General Grabber AT3. As predicted the tyre sits very close to the front and rear of the arch. This is in Normal height.

    Despite many people stating these tyres fit without an issue my concern was that the slight difference in offset (41.5 for a Defender wheel and 45 for a standard Discovery wheel) will increase the scrub radius, pulling the shoulder of the tyre tighter against the arches.

    I was in two minds about how close this is but many people stated these tyres fit without any issues. I did decide to go for it. I guess any rubbing will be a light brush rather than anything catastrophic. And perhaps there were other ways I could tighten the lining up a bit to give it more space.

    Well, so far, so good. Normal driving on lots of A roads later, some tight roundabouts and lock to lock parking later I can report no signs of rubbing so far. Maybe if you were into aggressive lock to lock movements under heavy braking? Then perhaps this isn't the setup you want. But I'm happy with it and it's really stating to look the part too.

    Next mission, retro fitting the spare wheel winch and heatshields. Very Happy
