Broke down Friday night
Had a bit of a nightmare this weekend.
late 2018 SDV6 HSE LUX 101250 miles. Driving from Wednesbury to Telford for a weekend event on Friday night. Around 30 mile trip, got around 3 miles from the Telford turning off the M54, and went to overtake. So indicated kicked the box down a gear and the car started kangarooing. The revs redlined and it held onto the gear it was in. Restricted performance lit up on the dash, so i immediately took my foot off the accelerator and while it was juddering it did change gear and i got it over to the hard shoulder. Switched it off, then started it back up and it was running rough, put it in gear and it wouldn't pull it was just juddering. So off it went and i opened the bonnet, and saw oil on the front of the engine at the back of the belt. So called the AA. As i was in a bad position they got a transporter out and moved me to the services. BUT as he was on the way i removed the engine cover, and found the intercooler pipe had blown off the throttle body, so we put it back on and the car started and drove onto the transporter. He dropped me off at the services and a patrol came to check it over. Checked for oil in the tail pipes, cleared the faults and wasn't worried about the oil on the engine. So he took it for a test drive with me, he said it was running beautifully no noises or anything driving well. Redid the diagnostics and came up DPF high level (don't know the %) was told to carry on (i was 2 miles from the hotel), drive it home steady on Sunday. Get a new throttle body and the DPF cleaned.
Now Sunday it started great, but shuddered at the first couple of islands, like it wasn't changing gear properly, but that cleared as i got to the motorway. Kept it between 55 and 65 mph all the way back and it drove great.
Monday morning wiped the oil off the front of the engine and removed the pipe from the throttle body. When the recovery guy clipped the pipe back on he had put the rubber O ring on the back of the throttle body behind the ears for the clip, not in the recess where it is supposed to go in front of the ears.
I removed the O ring and found that it was flat, but also had a chunk missing out of it. I checked the throttle body over for signs of cracks ect and it seems fine, and surprisingly clean inside. Did the same for the hose, then went to fetch a new O ring.
Fitted that and got it all secured back, cleared the DPF code, checked the soot mass and that was 3.74g so took it for a 50 mile drive. It drove really well, hesitation when cold had gone, and diagnostics after the run were all clear. So happy days again.

All because of an O ring...
Did you find out where the oil on the front of the engine came from and why the boost hose blew off in the first place?

The oil looked worse than it was. There is a light coating inside the pipe and throttle body. The AA guy said it was normal.
As for why the pipe blew off, the only thing i can think of is that the O ring was flat. So i presume it wasn't holding the fitting tight. Why the clip didn't hold i don't know.
