Towing capacity with 4-cyl ingenium, just 2500kg

Reading in the brochure that with the 4-cyl ingenium the D5 can only tow 2500 kg, but the Range Rover Sport can do 3500 kg with the 4-cyl. That means for towing it's just the V6 that's capable.

Wonder if it's worth waiting for the straight 6-cyl ingenium if you want to have a car to keep for a long time, I usually keep mine for 10+ years.

That's for the low horsepower 180 TD4 engine, here in the UK we get the 240 SD4 which has a 3500kg capability.

Regarding the Ingenium 4-cyl engines I read in the brochure that the towing capacity is 2,500kg on vehicles specified with third row seats, and nose weight is 100kg, when Aero wheels and low rolling resistance tyres are fitted.

This pretty much rules out the 4-cylinder versions for proper towing and I'm sure the 100 Nm less in torque will make a difference as well, despite the difference in horsepower is just 18.

According to the owners manual, the towing capacities are:

    2.0 240 bhp 5 seat / 7 seat - 3,500kg
2.0 240 bhp 7 seat Eco (which we don't get in the UK) - 3,000kg
    2.0 180 bhp 5 seat / 7 seat /Eco - 3,000kg
    3.0 diesel / petrol 5 seat / 7 seat - 3,500kg

(From the Technical Specifications->Weights section of the manual)

These weight classes seems to valid for Sweden as well, went to the dealer and they had a 2.0 240 bhp 7 seated D5 rated for a 3,500kg trailer there. Look forward to a proper test drive with fully loaded trailer.
