Rear bumper
Still considering a D5 but keep finding little things that don't quite work for me.
One thing I've noticed is the rear bumper but I was just wondering if someone could confirm the following:
To me it looks as though the area of the rear bumper that's likely to come into contact with something - be it a car, wall or whatever my wife decides to reverse into next -is made of black, textured plastic.
Is this not going to be a pain in the bum to repair? I've not come across anywhere that can repair textured plastic properly and it nearly always results in having to replace the whole part, which in this case looks like the whole bumper. Paint can simply be respected but plastic can't.
Thoughts?

If that is your only worry then, why worry about something that just might happen?
You will have sensors and a camera to help and if you are rear-ended then it is not your problem?
Just buy one and enjoy it.

Aren't the bumpers damage free for up to 5mph collisions?
The front collision avoidance system is very good, you would be hard pressed to hit anything.

Well yes, they should stop that happening but that's assuming my wife pays attention to them - which she doesn't! Sadly a repair or two per year is par for the course.
I've got one on loan for two days later this week so hopefully I'll be able to make up my mind.

If she does it that often I would not bother repairing!

To be fair it's four 'events' over four years - two on the D3 and two on the D4. She's always paid for it fixing herself and we're talking very light scuffs that have cost £100 a piece to fix as it's just paintwork on the bumper on the D3/D4. The type of scuff that most people wouldn't bother fixing. It doesn't bother me too much fixing a bit of paintwork but replacing a bumper every year might be a bit too much!
We share the one car and unfortunately she'll only have Land Rovers - no RS6 Avant for me! It's no hardship keeping the D4 as we both love it, but as I'll be paying for the extended warranty from January I reckon for the same annual outlay I could run a brand new D5.

Crap. I just scuffed yesterday this textured plastic rear bumper area. I
think it was my key fob dangling out of my pocket when loading up from a store run, at least from the shape that's my guess. Odd as I'm usually quite careful of this area.
None of the
OPT products I had on hand had any effect on it; except making the slight scuffs more prominent.
does anyone know if this area is painted or has clear coat? I'm thinking that's what was marred.
I hate this kind of plastic that is so easily blemished.
