yep that is the bit. For Skye at least we have the A9 option. You are more limited for Oban. Trouble is that from where we are down south - at the Erskine Bridge, it seems silly to go any other way!
I think this issue with the RSS width vs the D4 is that the D4 has its widest point on the plastic wheelarches. On the RRS it is the doors and so any minor coming together is much more catastrophic.
D4 is relatively slim in the bodyshape and the doors themselves are thinner. More overall space inside.

For folks coming up the M74 for the first time and heading further north I recommend that if they are going to arrive in Glasgow between 4pm and 7pm then just to carry on up the motorway to J10 on the M9 and head up the A84 to Tyndrum to avoid the mess up at Townhead and on the Kingston Bridge during rush hour. For anyone going to a destination further south than Oban though they don't have a lot of options, M8, A82 that's it. Mind you there are a couple of places on the A84, like the section just north of Callander and Mill of Lade and north of Loch Lubnaig where it is a bit narrow on the tight bends for meeting a coach or artic truck...........
