    Missing bits....

I have just got my car back after almost three weeks in dry dock. When I tell you that it had sprung a leak, you will understand the nautical resting place I mention. Water was pouring through the roof lining above the steering wheel.

Turns out that a significant section of windscreen sealant was simply missing, and the colder weather allowed the screen to contract and, hey presto, acqua dentro. This is obviously not unique to the model, as another owner had contacted the dealer today with exactly the same problem.

However, none of this is the purpose of this thread. I have been driving a slightly odd D5 in the interim as a loaner: a car that was built end March, but was on a 67 plate. I think it was a SE, but had a bunch of extras fitted to it, if so. What it did do was the let me determine what I missed about mine, and what I had specified that was a waste of money. Some of this might help those contemplating an order to determine the value of this or that factory extra...

    Things I missed:

    Auto High beam
    Heated steering wheel
    LED headlights
InControl Pro - especially the screen size, the standard version is very basic
    Electric rear seats
    Adaptive cruise
    Intelligent speed limiter
    Active lane keep assist
    Keyless entry

Things I have but didn't miss:

Adaptive LEDs - basically a marketing con at best
HUD - in two minds about the value of this

Things the loaner had, that I don't, but miss:

Park heat - not for park heat as much as the ultra rapid heat up on start. It's a better system than remote climate

As well as fixing the screen leak, the InControl update was completed along with the not in park issue and some other software glitches. A few internal snags were fixed and the tailgate was realigned and the rubbed trim replaced.

None of this should really be necessary for a car of this price, and Land Rover has successfully stuck another nail in the coffin of future ownership. Quality simply does not match price demanded.

My SE has LED headlights as standard Confused And fog lights which LR have deleted for the 18MY Rolling Eyes

Heated steering wheel option box was the first one ticked.

I’ve never tried the Pro system but the standard system works well, text read out/display, sat nav seems to work fine.

I’m still waiting on my case worker at LR getting back in touch with me about my issues. Seriously thinking about the Velar, my dealer as reasonable offers on the 240 SD4 S spec, may give them a call. I’ve been pleased with the overall quality of all previous LRs I’ve owned but this one is in a different league. The pub league, a long way from the premiership price tag.
