Unfortunetely I believe thats just how they behave. I think they do turn off after a period of time from start up. But there is no option to stop them coming on at start up.

I have rear screens. They switch on, they go off. I haven't got an issue.

Mine turn off after a while or so the kids tell me. Not sure I trust them totally on that though!

A brief update.
The remote control didn’t work... then I engaged grey cells. In the rear media settings menu there is an item called pair remote. It gives on screen instructions and now the remote works just fine.
The headphones... not worked it out. Not clear if they need to be paired or something needs to happen for the car to push sound out on (I believe) infra-red. Any ideas welcome.
