    I tried this retro-fitting roof rails to my one week old Touareg a few years ago. I watched a YouTube vid - looked easy....but I sheared the first bolt.

    The dealer had to remove the roof lining to replace the bolt - 1 weeks' work !. Fortunately, he convinced VW to cover it under warranty - apparently I had a rattle in the roof Smile Needless to say, I stayed loyal to that dealer !.

    I put roof rails on my D4 when it was 3 years old, all the bolt holes to attach the rails had rust in them. If you are doing this when your car is a few years old, tap the thread before putting the bolts in.
