    NOOOOOoooo.....!

Volkswagen to buy JLR from Tata Motors?

On one hand, this means JLR will become just another VAG clone with the Porsche/Audi badge-engineered platforms replacing Land Rover's Solihull designed platforms, and it will likely mean the end of diesel engines. Additionally, Jaguar competes (poorly in sales) with Audi, though I much prefer Jaguar sedans' neutral driving dynamics to Audi's front-heavy pushy feeling when giving it all of the right foot.

On the other hand, VAG is perennially either #1 or #2 in the world with gobs of cash even after Dieselgate, but they didn't get there by spending lavishly on brands that need cash infusions to stay profitable. The Piech family are also notorious micromanagers. Even Bentley gets a Porsche Cayenne / VW Touareg clone.

I thought I was done with VAG when they bought my Touareg back....

Excellent work, I followed the Bloomberg link too Laughing

The synergies are obvious - a mini Range Rover on the UP! platform and a utilitarian/Skoda badged version of the RRS at a lower price point and FWD only would be my starting points for increased volume in the new group Wink

At least the infotainment system will work better then Wink and Audi ‘invented’ Quattro... but not sure if I like the idea that VW would make a discovery...

Then you leave a gap in the market........Not what you do with a 30 billion investment. My biggest worry would be that they do the idiotic things that they are doing to their own range which is to have a minimal dash, so that all the things that you want to put your fingers on a switch are hidden in the menus and worst of all wreck the quality of what Land Rover has become.

I had an extended drive in the new Touareg R-Line before buying the Disco and I have to say that the huge infotainment screens are difficult to see in strong sunlight as they are so very large, I spent fifteen minutes trying to find where the heated steering wheel was and the luxury was none existent. My wife had a new VW Tiguan R-Line, which at 37K was a brand new Golf GTI less than the price of the Touareg and the quality seemed very comparable. What's more for that price, there was no sliding pan roof as there was in my wife's car, no keyless entry and the identical style wheels as were standard on the Tiguan (albeit 21" as opposed to 20 ") were a fifteen hundred pound extra. Just try getting into a 40K Arteon and a 20K Polo and there are just too many similarities.

Finally, they will inflate the prices to create a buffer between VW, Audi and LR.
