Anyone driven a 2.0ltr ?
Quite a bit cheaper and on paper looks good. No towing required except for a small Ifor Williams trailer every now and then.
Would be good to get some real user feedback though....

Drove one for about 10 miles a week ago. I was impressed. But I'm in a D3 / 190PS so a 240PS engine in a car a lot lighter with 2 extra gears was going to feel lively.
Doesn't have the V6 rumble but it not a harsh sounding engine.
Dealers should have a 2.0 demo for you to try.
I had a 2.0 on order subject to a drive and am keeping with that choice

The demo vehicles aren't here for a few months although I'm in the UK this week so may try to get to a dealer to see one.

We had a quick look at a 2l over the weekend. Can't believe LR are producing these TBH! It sounded awful the closest thing I could compair it to was a 3 cylinder engine! Very rough and noisy.
we didn't drive it so can't say how it drove!

I haven't driven one but what I would say is that we're all going to need to get used to smaller engines producing more power. The BMW i8 has a 1.5 3cyl but it sounds amazing because they have engineered the sound into the speaker system.
A big car like the D5 needs power and they could get 400bhp out of a 4cyl but unless it sounds right it won't feel right.
That was my biggest criticism of the new XC90. The performance is perfectly acceptable but it sounds under-powered, sounds like you're straining every drop of power out of it. A big V6 diesel, even when pushed will sound good.
I bet if LR had changed the sound it would be a different sound. The dealer told me to expect 'sound engineering' in the p180 and p240 velar.
When I'm not in the operating theatre, I'm mountain biking, spending time with my family, running and socialising. I have a Discovery 5 HSE Lux with pretty much every option ticked. This is my first ever Land Rover. Been a rocky road with regards to reliability but we're getting there.

Indeed! But surely LR could do the same or do they really want to up-sell?

I've had a half hour drive. No problem at all as far as I was concerned. Take delivery of mine on Friday, so will know lots more soon!
I only tow a light unbraked trailer, so don't need the extra grunt for that. It might be a little breathless at the motorway limit. Might have to change my usual habit of selecting 8th and putting the cruise control at 76.
Salesman tells me he drove one off road at Eastnor and didn't realise it wasn't a 3.0 litre.

OK so drove a 2.0ltr today. Have to say that it was really hard to notice any difference vs my previous D4 (240 version). Very smooth and quiet inside the cabin although agree it has a diesel rattle if you listen to it under load and you're outside. I'd say this engine will be fine for almost all cases although it won't compete with the 3.0 for torque when towing a large tin tent.
For my needs it would be enough.

Our LTD from JLR is a 2.0d HSE and to be fair there's nothing wrong with it I'm sure if you are towing at the max the 3.0 will shine but over a 1000 miles in her and she's fine
My only gripe is that the fans (Heating n Cooling) appear to be noisy but then I'm used to a L405

Got a 2l Hse on Saturday and drove 150 miles back home. Will update tomorrow as soon as I can figure out how too cut and paste from my emails onto the D5 forum, as am using a smart phone
