    Picking up the new caravan

So, do I go and collect the new touring caravan on Friday night in the new car with all the fancy towing assistance or get used to the D5 first and collect the van beforehand using the X5 I'm used to driving. Answers on a post card please!

When I'm not in the operating theatre, I'm mountain biking, spending time with my family, running and socialising. I have a Discovery 5 HSE Lux with pretty much every option ticked. This is my first ever Land Rover. Been a rocky road with regards to reliability but we're getting there.

Personally I would put a good few hundred miles on the D5 before towing Thumbs Up

As this is the 'Humour' page, can I suggest selling the caravan?

I wouldn't have a problem with just going for it. The main thing I suppose is do your towing mirrors fit. At the end of the day it's still one pedal to go and one to stop. Turn the wheely thing left it goes left, turn it right it goes right. Simples Mr. Green Mr. Green
What van are you getting ?

A Swift Sterling Elite 630. I know it's going to be something we use about 4 times and then give up on the idea but we have toyed with the idea for ages and made the mistake of going to the caravan show.
I've decided to let them deliver it to the house. I've got a busy week ahead so at least if it's there at home my wife and kids can crawl all over it.
Think I'll fiddle with the mirrors next weekend and go out for a spin with the new car.

Sounds like a good plan. We just changed our swift 630 . There a big unit but really stable. I personally think there great for a family. Just pick your first trip with care and a good forecast. Try forum caravantalk if you have any questions. Enjoy.

Thanks Craig, I had read a review about them being like that but this is apparently upgraded axles etc. Probably just salesman talk. We have a site lined up where it will spend most of the summer down near Tenby so I won't be towing it back and fore all the time.

You need to speak to my wife, I'd be happy to take the hit and sell it now. Give me a scalpel and I'm happy, not squeamish as you might imagine, but the thought of emptying the chemical toilet fills me with dread.

If you've not emptied the chemical toilet before - one word of warning from someone who learnt the hard way.

There's a button on the tank that lets air in to allow the contents to come out quicker. On no account must you ever, EVER push this button unless the tank is tipped at a considerable angle with the button uppermost.

Failure to remember this top tip will lead to you discovering that a hole to allow air in rapidly becomes a hole to let liquid out. Big Cry
