    Second cracked windscreen this year

Not from chips, or impact damage.

Left the car last night for 30 minutes (reasonable mild, but wet), came back and there was a 12" crack across the screen from passenger side towards middle. It's the second time a similar crack has happened this year. Anyone else experienced this kind of behaviour?

not had that yet, do have a stone chip with quarter inch crack thats been there since July 19. Sort of scared to get it replaced a) because insurance are insisting it needs to be Autoglass b) will they get the right screen, heated, solar coated and HUD and c) will it then leak after like so many D5s seem to have leaking screens.

Even if they are specifying autoglass, you can still ask autoglass to get the correct LR (stamped) part.

I've just written an email to the dealer asking if it might be covered under warranty. Certainly the old ball point pen trick reveals no impact.

In Colorado, windscreens are consumable items - in the winter they drop sand on the roads, but pea gravel often makes it into the mix. Mad In California and Nevada they use ground volcanic cinder which is generally not hard or dense enough to chip a windscreen. In Colorado all our volcanoes have worn away, so we don't have any of that. Neutral

Small stone chips that are down near the edge that you might otherwise miss can easily spread seemingly from nowhere.
