Rear bumper panel. Why is there a small cutout. Towbar?

I have been reading the manual, held the removable towbar in my hand,
but didn't fit is since its quite wet and cold and I rember fighting with my
towbar to come off the F-Pace again..

I fail to see the purpose of the little cutout. Where is it for ?

Since I want to fit a gloss black cover, and that only comes without the cutout.. Whistle

This is not my car, just to show the cutout I refer to...

Is that not the cut out that you remove to screw in the towing eye?

If you have the deployable towbar then you screw the recovery loop in there. If you have the detachable towbar then you have a proper recovery point and have to take the whole panel off.

Be aware that there are different shapes for that panel depending on which tow bar option you have.

Don't think so : some cars don't have it !

Thanks. I have the detachable version. But If I have to take the whole thing of anyway, why bother with an extra cutout ? Or do you remove the whole panel and put it back minus the cutout ??

The panel is the same for the detachable and deployable towbar. With the detachable you have to remove the whole panel, with the deployable you remove the cut out and screw in the recovery loop.

The fixed towbar has a panel with a big, permanent cut out for the towbar.

Cars without a tow bar have a more tightly fitted panel with no cut out. This panel won't fit on cars with a tow bar.

Ok. Thanks ! The picture starts to get clear now.

So I should have the panel with the cut out for the permanent towbar if I want to
get wrid of taking the panel off and putting it back every time I use the towbar..

Shouldn't have listened to the garage man, just fit the permanent one as I had on the D3... Rolling Eyes

    (not my car)

No, you don't have to take the panel off to use the towbar, only if you want to use the recovery point which is above the towbar receiver.

The towbar fits in to the receiver from underneath so you leave the panel in place.

OK. That makes more sense !

Thanks for your patience. Nothing about this in the manual Sad .

But then : without a towbar you also need the panel of for this recovery point, don't you ?

So then I can fix the panel without the cutout and maybe cut a piece from the back,
    or is that a "no-no" ..

    Have a look at: https://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/docume...c/G1939168

Without a tow bar, you remove the whole panel to access the recovery point. The small patch is only used with the deployable towbar.

To fit the panel for a car without a towbar over the detachable tow bar, you would need to cut a very big chunk out of it. I made myself one for off-road use where I wanted easy access to the recovery point.
This is what I made, you can see how much the detachable tow bar receiver protrudes beyond the surface of the panel.

I can see perfectly well what you mean to say..

And I also understand why you know the details !!

Incredible, why make something simple so complicated..

It would have helped if they mentioned something about the recovery part as a
    referral in the towbar section..

But I can just lever the small bit out by pushing on the lower edge.

    Good to know. Thumbs Up

So this cable I can fix on the removable towbar ? Very unclear image.

The cable goes lower down, no need to remove the panel to attach it.

I don't think you should look at this example. That panel is especially for the Aussie market to fit a hitch receiver,
