    Bucking the trend with an S

    Hi. New here. Usually found over on Defender forums but just put an order in for a new D300 S. Kept worrying I should be getting an HSE because all Discos seem to be HSE....

    But was disappointed HSE is only available in R-Dynamic (not really into the black accents/wheels) and most of the options were things I either didn't need or want.

    Went for:
    D300 S
    Portofino Blue
    Premium headlights/AHBA/Auto levelling
    20" rims
    Meridian Sound System
    Tow Pack
    Driver Assist Pack
    Privacy Glass
    Fixed Sunroof

    Which came out £7k cheaper than a D300 HSE before adding a tow bar.

    It's going to be doing lots of miles, lots of towing, some off roading.

    Roll on May.....

    Hi Farmerben ! Welcome to the forum !

    I like the Portifino to, its almost the Loire Blue I had on my F-Pace..
    I came from a D3 and found the F-Pace too small...

    Can you send the configuration link, or didn't you configure it on line ?

    Didn't you forget air suspension, frontwindow heating .. ?

    The link is not related to your order, unless you got it from the dealer.

    Ever tried the online configuration ? I did zillions of those.. Mr. Green

    I didn't have much choice. Best trade in for my 11 months old 25t F-Pace was on this 2018 SD4..

    “lots of towing, some off roading” + reduced section spare wheel = potential world of pain.

    Lack of air for towing will be limiting for both of the above activities - correction: air now standard.

    Up-speccing a base car maximises depreciation. The only thing that will count, at trade in time, will be “S” or “HSE”, Sadly, £8,000 worth of extras will count for nothing.

    Nice colour though 👍

    I think it has air suspension.

    You’re right, it does. Have LR dropped the steel sprung base versions?

    Welcome. Ben

    I just put your spec through DTD and their discount comes out at:

    So straight off the bat you're better off buying elsewhere than your dealer. My understands NFU discount is extra, not 100% instead of, so c9% and then your dealer tops up with another c5%? With that in mind I'd get back onto your dealer and play hardball.

    JLR are very sneaky that the D300 is only available as an S model for non R-Dynamic models, forcing you to pay gargantuan money for Sunroof, stereo, electric seats etc etc. I know you say you don't like the R-Dynamic, but as previously mentioned those £8k of options will be burnt money, unless you plan to keep it until it dies and/or you can write it down through your business.

    To give you a bit of a benchmark, I'm got them down to £64250 for my £72000 spec car. I'm retail (no NFU discount), so with your car IMO they could be quoting you at c£57-58k after discounts.

    HTH gives you some food for thought. Very Happy

    2021 D300 R-Dynamic HSE - Carpathian Grey.

    I’ve not been through the configurator, but is it not possible to spec an R-Dynamic with silver wheels at no cost? Appreciate that leaves some black bits but should look fine on Portofino.

    I’m not generally a blacked out fan either, but do much prefer the look of my Eiger/black pack/Matt grey wheels/dynamic grille car compared with its Carpathian/silver grille and highlights/silver wheels predecessor.

    I’ve got some pics of a Loire loaner with black pack and 22” diamond cut bling wheels if interested.

    @Equilibrium__ I configured the car I have now, but in Byron Blue, very rare color here.

    New that car costs [due to taxation] € 135.000 on-the-road.. I bought it almost 3yrs old,

    but then in corris grey, at 64k (78k km, new engine since 54k km), with 36mnths approved..

    Given I only drive about 12-20k km pa (outside covid lockdowns), in a few years it has a

    relatively low milage and depreciates less.

    In real life the difference isn't as stunning as it looks in the photo...

    Suggested upgrades :
    - Matrix LED headlights with signature DRL GBP 150,- ;
    - 20" Style 5011, 5 split-spoke, Gloss Sparkle Silver GBP 500,- [personal taste];
    - 18-way heated electric memory front seats... +GBP 300,- [nice..];
    - Blind Spot assist instead of Driver assists saves -GBP 1150,- [ your really use adaptive cc?];
    - Heated washer jets +GBP 110,- [ I assume you have salted roads];
    - Check with your insurance, what alarm they require.
    I always take the seciure tracking option. Aftermarket cheaper;

    Its just a reminder for you. Heated steering wheel I love too now, since I have one !

    Thanks everyone for the input. I'll go back and look at the HSE but guess I just need to weigh up whether I want the look I like or go with what holds it's value. Might have to rethink the blue as never been a fan of black/blue... but then never been into black/grey/silver cars either. Really wish there was a green like the Epsom Green Disco we had when I was a kid. As I said before, shame HSE only available in R Dynamic.

    As for towing and off roading - just around and between farms. Will be doing some Scottish road trips and having done them quite happily in my 2.2 Defender, I'm sure anything will be an improvement!

    The lack of green, on a Land Rover, of all cars, is unforgivable 😤

    The Loire Blue replacement is still a good second best though 👍

    If they'd just do the green the New Defender has now.. GLORIOUS..

    Looks a lot like the Vienna green I had on my 2006 D3 HSE Luxury.. Whistle
