Interior Mirror and Smoke when Refuelling

Hi All , have now done nearly 800 miles since delivery on 17th March however a couple of points to make other owners away of.

interior Mirror :- After only having for a week the interior Mirror fell off , the black box that sticks to the screen so called lRA who said would have to go to dealer to fix. Apparently LR did not apply enough glue to it !! So dealer ordered a new windscreen and glued properly back on!

    On another topic :-

Refilling :- filled up today with about 1/4 tank left and as started filled was getting smoke coming out when filling so decided to stop after about half a tank was in as was slightly worrying! I had been driving around 50 miles before filling up so engine was warmed up. I have found on the Dsico Sport forum a similar topic and sounds like a common happening on the newer LR's.

Has anyone else experienced this on the D5 and know what it is ??? Is it normal / concerning anything that needs to be fixed ????

    TIA

    Matt

Hi MattChines and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry it's to report bad news and I trust we can fix the problems you are having soon.

I can't help with the mirror, it seems one area where LR have not blessed me with a broken car.

Where did you see the smoke coming from?

I've refuelled a lot of D5s waiting for mine to be fixed, none have smoked noticeably.

I presume you mean visible vapour, not smoke?

Seems to be a feature of the misfuel device, I've seen it on many models. Don't smoke and you'll be fine....

Yes think it must be Vapour , is this anything to be concerned about as was doing the whole time i was refueling. I never had this on the D4 i had, Don't think it happens when the engine is cool. Would be interested to know if anyone else is experience this?

It's vapour 👍🏻 As above don't smoke and you'll fine Laughing

Fuelled my one up this morning at 3.50am, no vapour, but got a range of 470 miles, best I managed with the D4 is 450.

II also see a mist / vapour. I wouldn't say it is smoke. But useful to know what causes it as never seen this on other cars before.

No need to panic guys, as diesel wont self combust, neither will the vapours.

Not that i encourage smoking next to it Shocked

You have to throw diesel on a fire so it combusts.

Unlike petrol which is alot more volatile, even the vapours. - lethal!!!!

Hence petrol cars have spark plugs for ignition and diesel ones have glow plugs !!

Sorry for stating the obvious !! Rolling Eyes

Glow plugs aren't for ignition though Wink

    You need to squeeze diesel....

Did you say you were having trouble with smoke & mirrors?

I had the vapour mist issue and assumed it was just created by the velocity of the fuel in the filler pipe and just tried really hard not to inhale it - I think I looked pretty stupid filling up and doing that.

The fuel tank is cooled, cold diesel gives better performance that warm diesel. So when you open the filler the cool air escapes and vaporises into the warmer air outside the vehicle. Its the same as opening a freezer on a warm day Thumbs Up

    Thank goodness for this forum.
Filled the car up for the first time and noticed the vapour. Would have panicked if I hadn't read about this last night.
    Cheers everyone
