    Which sim

Hi, New here, just bought a Disco 5 2017 HSE Luxury. Looking at the connectivity and confused. What type of sim is best for the car and what data allowance is best.My phone sim is with SKY but they do't appear to do a broadband sim.
    Thanks
    Phill.

Can’t help in which sim since I am not in the Uk, but be aware that the 2017 model only has up to 3G. If 3G has been turned off in the UK, then it will fall back to Edge (2G)

I have already been in touch with JLR and the manufacturer of the component and although the manufacturer offered JLR a replacement part that would offer 4G, JLR went with another supplier that was cheaper.

Consequently, there isn’t anything that we can do to upgrade the 2017 model to do more than 3G

You will be better off using Apple Carplay or Android Auto with your phone.

Only if you like AA or AC!!

Personally... I use the standard navigation etc and find it very good!!

AA and AC also have the disadvantage that you have to connect the phone via cable...

so... each to their own, but I don't use AA or AC on my vehicles.

I was really addressing the OP, Soupy.

I have a small gizmo plugged in to make it wireless.

Still confused, the Landrover app says it needs a sim with data so the phone app can link with the car and also for live updates on the map
How much data does the car use when the sat nav is being used,
I have no idea what AA or AC are.

Your car only has 3G capability.

Vodafone and EE 3G are switched off, Three is switching off during 2024.
Virgin/O2 are switching off by the end of next year.

So you do not have an option really.

Maps are updated by USB so that will continue to work but you have to pay.

If your cars software has been kept up to date the you can use either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

To update maps you have to pay for the update and download the update via a PC/Mac onto a large capacity memory stick, which is then uploaded to the car via the usb port in the centre armrest console. Well that’s what I did.

The SIM card isn’t needed to use the uploaded maps, but it is needed for live traffic updates and the like.

You also need to get the cars software up to date, best done using a local area network ( I did mine using home network parked in driveway!) as using mobile networks can be flaky in my experience.

AC and AA are alternative ways to access apps (eg Google maps) on your Apple or Android phones by plugging your phone into the same usb slot in the armrest,

Sadly the failure of the earlier D5s to be upgradable to 4G let alone 5G means adding a data sim is pointless.
