Considering that the standard LED lights do exactly the same as the ‘Adaptive’ ones when you slow down and/or turn sharp left or right (ie turn on additional lights angled left/right or low down forwards) I am becoming increasingly infuriated by just how much of a rip off paying so much extra for the ‘Adaptive’ lights has proven. When we were speccing our new D5 the sales brochure clearly stated that the Adaptive lights ‘swing with the road when cornering’ (leaving us expecting a similar, if not better(!) effect that the adaptive lights on both our D4s had on twisting, pitch dark, countryside roads) but they DO NOT so we are back to cornering into the black abyss once more - my wife’s VW Golf has better functioning ‘adaptive headlights’ that swing with the direction of the steering wheels. Talk about paying more for less!
There’s no doubting the LED lights on the D5 are dazzlingly bright but this just makes it more difficult to see into the darkness they aren’t pointing into. It has taken a number of return trips to our local dealer and lots of head scratching from their service team to come to the conclusion that there is no apparent advantage to paying more for the ‘Adaptive LED’ option. The brochure lied.
Really bad show JLR. What a con.
