Whine in low range
Dropped my MY2022 D5 HSE into low range yesterday afternoon, just to give it a run. Only had the car for a few weeks, so hadn't tried it till now. It has a really loud whine.
Opinions on whether it's likely to be a problem or lack of use. It's booked in to the dealer to investigate, but wondered if anyone else had the same experience. I'm thinking transfer box is almost certainly the culprit, as high range is silent.

The transfer box whines if you're going quickly in low range. I only notice it when I'm being lazy and don't change back to hi range e.g. for a short section of tarmac road before going off-road again.

Afternoon Jon. This seems rather louder than I would expect, although obviously more so at speed. Would you classify it louder than your D4, because mine certainly is?
In comfort setting, the gearbox is going to start off in second or third, I can try dropping into M&R or Rock Crawl to force first gear and asses it with those parameters. I’ll also try to record it.

Definitely louder than the D4, but not noticable on most green lanes. It seems to be road speed related not engine speed related. I'd guess that I start to be aware of it at about 15mph.

Just for info, it will not make any difference which gear the gearbox is in, it will be the low range gears in the transfer case. On D4 & pre 21My D5 the transfer case was a Magna supplied item, on 21MY onwards D5, the driveline is different and the transfer case is a BorgWarner supplied unit, both will exhibit gear whine in low ratio but should be quiet in normal ratio.

Having reviewed the noise last night, I have decided that there isn’t a problem after all. The transfer box seems to conform to your descriptions in that it’s pretty quiet up to about 15mph.
