ZF8HP45 oil service
Hi,
First al have a beautiful, safe and healthy 2025.
The question I have for you is……..
I wanted to do a oil service on the ZF8HP45 gearbox in my
Disco 3.0 SCv6 3.0 Si (petrol)
The WM say, after topping up with the engine running and the
dripping out the level plug stopped, remove, suck out, a 350ml of oil ????
then refit the plug. Job done.
Ive never heard of suck out a amount of oil, also not for the LR’s
with automatics, I had before .
Can you guys tell me …..l do I read the manual correct?

The ZF guide doesn’t say anything about that.
I would follow what ZF recommend as they made the box.
You can download their guide from their site (sorry don’t have the link to hand)

Link is not needed nebc100. In all my previous LR's I did it as ZF describes. However the WM for a 3.0 V6 SC describes it differently. Very strange. I'm going to do it as always and forget that part about sucking out 350ml. Regards

Maybe the change in guidance to sucking out out 350ml is so you can get the correct level with the oil cold, normally as you probably know you need to get the oil to a set temperature to get the level right

That could be a very good explanation Chris
Well I just did it the usual way, no problem.
Expansion coefficient of ATF oil is roughly 15% (-20° > +200° C) So that could work out at 8.5 liters.
Thank you, have a nice day.👍
