    Security ??🤷🏻‍♂️

Just thought I’d ask what everyone is using. As a new owner (secondhand but new to me) I’ve had a ghost pro fitted and also keep the key In a faraday pouch. Drive way has had anti ram bollards cameras and SWMBO got a steering lock for when she’s out

Thoughts on what’s best and not

With all that…. If they get it away they deserve it! Very Happy

just a milenco steering bar and some gates for us.

I see the security on some Defners like pedal boxes steering locks and chains - its a bit of sad situation really.

I have considered Ghost but read bad press about ECU conflicts and issues.

My insurance company insisted on a steering wheel security lock and a tracker.
The steering wheel gizmo was £30 and if you subscribe to the Land Rover Remote app, you get a journey tracker included so the compliance cost was minimal.
I only have to use the yellow gizmo during the night when parked on the driveway at home which is why I have a photo of it on the car.🙄

It’ll stop the joy riders I suppose but I have turned off the keyless entry too.
I have since heard if you have a remote with the LR logo on the back, you’ve got a key that cannot be “relayed” to gain access.

    Security?

I live on an isolated rock 2 ferries and 3 days away from the nearest car thief...and I very occasionally lock the car and take the keys out. I discovered that it needs to be locked and alarmed or the In Control remote start won't work. Neutral

For insurance purposes... it's of course surrounded by Claymore mines, electrified razor wire and flame throwers Whistle
That said, I'm also lucky that being so remote and isolated from mainland UK, my insurance premium for the D5 is less than £500 fully comp.

What's genuinely worse for me is remembering to take this out (from a scrap Disco 2) and to wear my seatbelt when I go over on the ferry to Kirkwall. Rolling Eyes

It never occurred to me that the app serves as a tracker. Is this declared on your insurance as such and do they reduce premium at all? Thx

I couldn’t vouch for a reduction in premium. It was a condition of insurance for reasons I know not.
It’s also specific for each individual so best advice, speak to your insurance company and see what they say but remember, they make up the rules as the game goes on.🙄

When I lived on the Isle of Harris, no one ever locked their car and it was practice to leave the keys behind the sunvisor just in case someone wanted a loan of it or to move it. No one ever stole anything in all the time I lived there. The only crime was a bit of fisty cuffs at the local hall after a ceilidh and a bit of drunk driving. It’s changed a bit now, but then a lot of dream chasers from all over moved into the Highlands particularly after covid. Rolling Eyes

Aye, it was the same on South Uist when we lived over there...as we discussed on another topic on here a while ago. There still remains roughly the same 'wild west charm' here on the more remote outer islands of Orkney as the occasional summer incomers usually only last a year or so before fleeing back to mainland UK after surviving an 8 or 9 month long winter in the North Sea. Wink

As much as Orkney is a fantastically welcoming and friendly place like all of the northern or western isles, it's a standard greeting up here for the white settlers... "When you leave, can we have your stuff?" Whistle

During Covid, the local ferry company denied passage for non permanent residents attempting to head out to any of the outer isles, even the summer home owners were denied if they decided to isolate up here rather than their usual place of residence. Lockdown meant exactly that ...consequently, we had zero cases of Covid. (and the local shop didn't run out of loo rolls)...

Jackie, the local shop owner put the kibosh on panic loo roll buying by charging normal price for 1 pack...and unless you had a good excuse... £60 per additional pack thereafter Laughing

I still occasionally make a few quid dragging cars out of the ditches after the Orkney version of a cèilidh (no Gaelic here since the place is full of Vikings)...I charge the drunkards £30 a time for towing their cars out with the tractor on a Monday morning Mr. Green

Like you said in our other brief discussion, you could tell stories of ordinary day to day life on the outer islands and strangers to it would swear you're making it up...
