Stranded in Paris with no recovery

Car broken into last night in Paris via smashed window
Dealing with that this morning when after loading bags and kids and staring the engine, I get amber engine warning and big engine vibration and running really bad. It’s the 2017 SI6 3.0 petrol supercharged.
Drove flawless all the way here, no hints of something bad happening.

Been trying to speak to land rover dealers in Paris all day, emailing phone calls no one is getting back to me. I need a diagnostics check.

    Could well be abandoned here…

What options do we have without breakdown ? No Land Rover Extended Warranty

    Thanks 🙏

I think that just about sums up my worst nightmare. You don't have RAC or AA membership perchance?

Without that or at least some assistance from a Land Rover/Jaguar dealership in Paris, I'd be looking at finding a decent indy garage to at least carry out a 'get you home' repair, assuming it's nothing major.

Perhaps your hotel could offer some local advice on that?

I wish you the very best of luck in any case.

Sorry to hear about your nightmare. I stopped towing our caravan in Europe when we got the (new to us) D5 after hearing about issues with dealer support or lack thereof. Just lost my pioneer spirit!.

I have a Petrol SI6 as well and coincidentally I’ve had the amber emissions light come up on the dash just this last week. Touch wood the engine seems to be running ok, emissions are ok but the diagnostic said it’s an O2 sensor fault. It stayed cleared for a week but then came back…. cleared once again …. this time it came back in 24hrs. I was told that it was ok to drive because the light wasn’t flashing (not sure if that’s true or a fob off) but it’s going in after the BH.

Just got this info of the net if it’s any help…

A taxi ride might be in order?

    Bon chance

I don’t suppose the people who broke into the car did something to cause this or removed something??
Seems like a hell of a coincidence.

Any suggestions Mole HD as to what could have been done ….or removed …to cause this sudden problem?

Sugar, beer or something poured into the fuel filler immediately sprang to mind...or something jammed in the exhaust. That's assuming the thief/miscreant once they had broken the window to get into the car didn't pop the bonnet and pull a plug lead or 2.

UK plates in Paris, never the friendliest of places to park your car compared to the rest of France as a whole Neutral

I hope he eventually comes back to us with the answer. I cannot believe there isn’t a connection between the smashed window and the cars sudden malaise.

I wonder why the car alarm didn’t sound when the glass broke?? Rolling Eyes

I thought the same about the car's sudden illness, it is a bit suss. The alarm may well have just gone unnoticed. Remote city hotel car park out of immediate earshot from the hotel room, noisy city with traffic, horns and sirens going off all night...

    Hard to tell... Neutral

Sadly, I very much doubt there'll be an update posted, regardless of the outcome... Sad

To the OP, I truly hope you managed to get sorted.

Reminds me of my nerves at driving through central Paris two years ago, in my two week old car Discovery, at the start of our holiday. And seeing the truck in front of us rear-end the car ahead of him. So glad he hadn't let me out at the junction, as it would have been us.

Please come back and update us, when you can.

Scariest experience I've ever had on a motorbike...going round the Arc de Triomphe on the Harley. Mrs Mole was fending the cars off with her boot Shocked

I also suspect the OP will have bigger things on their mind than an update to us. I would politely question the logic of driving anywhere abroad let alone Paris without appropriate recovery cover but each to their own.

Similar philosophy displayed by one of my sons mates who, when travelling to Marbella with the ‘boyz’ for a jolly sensible weekend chose the cheapest travel insurance he could find and yet spent an absolute fortune on beer and birds. Just a couple of pints less would have got him the level of cover he actually ended up needing!

    Hey ho.

I suspect we've all done similar when we were young and immortal Whistle

In the late 70's, a gang of us all stationed in north Germany headed down through Germany to Austria...across the Alps into Italy...and back around the coast of Italy, across the Alps again into France, crossing through the Ardennes and back into Germany...a round trip that lasted 6 weeks.

We were all on 1960's Brit bikes at the time...a motley collection of AJS's, Triumphs, BSA's and Nortons with nothing except an inner tube and puncture repair kit under the seat and a spare chain link and a bottle of chain oil in our jacket pockets. We didn't even have tents, we slept on the ground next to the bikes under an army poncho used as a lean-to and inside an army sleeping bag Laughing

The joys of yoof...and a spine that was only 20 years old Rolling Eyes
