Is this leak a windscreen issue?

Coming back from my son's football this morning, we had a spirited drive around a roundabout at which point my lad in the front passenger seat shouts "Dad, there's water falling on me." Turns out it was coming out of this slatted area on the left-side of the rear view mirror housing.

Is this typical of the front windscreen leaks so many people report, or is this somehow linked to the air-con, and therefore something different?

Any clues appreciated, so I can decide if I need to book this in, Never had anything like it happen before.

On my previous one i did have water coming dripping out of there when i had a windscreen issue, so I'm afraid to say it looks worryingly like you may have some water coming in the windscreen seal.

Thanks for confirming - I'll call the dealer in the morning and get it booked in. I did think I was being luck to be seven years into D5 ownership, car number two, and not have had this problem!

Is car still in warranty, if so don't call dealer, call LR Assist, they should come out quickly, temporary seal then get it booked in with dealer and you should get a LR assist car. When mine leaked in August, car was at dealer for a week waiting for new screen to turn up.

Bloody good LR Assist service. Called 7.55am, LR Assist tech due within two hours to my work. Appreciate the suggestion to get them involved, and not go direct to the dealer. Monday mornings aren't normally that good!

Did the tech fix it, temporarily or otherwise?

He was on-site 1hr 10 mins after I called LR Assist, on a Monday morning, you can't get better than that. He 'crash wrapped' the top of the screen and told me the dealer would be in touch to have the car within 24-48hrs, as soon as they'd sorted the loan car. Not heard yet, but will chase tomorrow afternoon if no call....

Again, a big thanks. Just dropped my car in and have a nice very low mileage 25-plate RR Sport for the next few days. I've told them not to rush!

Bonding Failure on Windscreen - Group Action

    Hey there,

Looks like you may have been victim to the poorly bonded windscreens on Discovery 5's.

I'm looking to hold JLR to account for it, and to do that, I need to collate all those who have had failed Windscreens/Bonding.

If you could fill out this very short form, it'll help me build a database of all those who have had issue, and hopefully force JLR to sort it out, of not just with a recall, but also addressing those who have suffered because of it.

    Thanks

Good luck with your claim, but I once did a Group Action claim (against an airline, for data theft - and because it did cause me a tonne of hassle), but promised myself never, ever again. It was a painful process, and I regretted ever getting involved. The pay out was laughably small - the only people who benefitted were some a big team of lawyers who lined their pockets.

Fully appreciate this claim is very different, but I'm forever hearing about new Group Action Claims on the radio, online, or telly. If not for diesel emissions, then for car finance, and just this week I heard one being advertised for the M&S data breach (as if that poor company hasn't gone through enough after being hacked!).

My feeling on the matter now is that nothing's perfect in life. Things go wrong, Censored happens, and if we try and launch group action claims whenever something's not right, then this world will become pretty difficult for any business to navigate. As a business owner, I don't fancy that, so I'm keeping clear from now on.

Yes the leak was annoying, and my son got a few drops of water on his lap, once. But that was it. LR customer support was exemplary. LRA attended within 90 mins of me alerting them, made an immediate temp repair, got me booked in within four days at my local main dealer, gave me an almost brand new, £100k+ loan car for six days whilst they fixed it... They also fitted a brand new windscreen and gave my car a full car valet. I got to put 500 miles on someone else's motor, and quite enjoyed the experience of driving a different car. I'm not out of pocket one penny.

I hope that makes sense, and didn't want to just be rude and ignore your comment and request.

    Cheers!

    Hey! Thanks for the reply.

I’ve zero issue with JLR if they sort it.

This action is because the response to most is ‘No’ if you’re even marginally out of warranty, or if you chose to use independants to service it.

When it’s a know issue of many years, it’s baking in those costs for people who happen to fall foul when it fails post manufacturers warranty. Extended warranty’s won’t cover it, none of them, so after 3 yrs your expected to just lump it.

It’s not good enough. They have continued to produce a vehicle with a know defect.

I totally get you. You'd imagine the cost of a permanent fix would be far lower than all these repairs - unless of course it's still a fraction of the overall number of vehicles made.

I'm probably just hard-wired after nearly 16 years of Disco ownership to knowing I would never own one which was out of warranty, or not covered by extended warranty. Not the way it should be, but the only way I can guarantee being able to afford the car.

    Good luck.

That’s been my approach for many years, soon as cars got all gizmo rather than mechanical. DSG boxes, Infotainment, all things which can’t be fixed by a socket set and spanner’s, I made sure I was covered.

The only problem with this fault is it kinda falls into a gap in cover on nearly all warranties, certainly extended ones.

If they say the windscreen itself is at fault, it’s not covered, but if you pushed them to confirm it’s the adhesive, it should be… good luck!

Shouldn’t even be an argument, but it’s all insurance based business and we all know the first response is to refuse because 40% of people never challenge it…
