Quality Control Issues - Is anyone out there happy?

Hi guys. I'm seeing lots of posts about problems. A discouragingly wide variety of issues and headaches. Problems with towing over 60, smoke billowing from engine bay, acid smells for first few months, scratches and imperfections on the trim of brand new vehicles (too many to be considered random), screens turning off for no apparent reason, rear hatches not opening closing,, etc etc.

I've had an X5 for the past six years and I've never experienced the sort of problems that I'm reading about on here. I actually love the vehicle, but as you all know it's not good off-road and a couple of times a year I want that capability. And after six years, I have the itch for a new toy. Wink

I'm worried because I live 4.5 hours away from nearest JLR dealer. They have made a great offer of coming to pick up my vehicle, provide loaner while mine is away, and return my vehicle to me for any work that is covered under warranty, for the full warranty period. This is unheard of in these parts, and it helped seal the deal for me. But based on what I'm reading, I'm still concerned. I can walk away from this prior to taking possession, but we don't have a 30 day return policy in Canada.

Are there any new D5 owners who have had ZERO problems with their vehicles? Does this unicorn even exist?

    Thanks.

After a few X5's I made the switch to a D5. We did have problems in the first week but seems ok now and we're happy with the car.
The X5's were ultra reliable for us. Overall, the D5 is a better vehicle for us

When I'm not in the operating theatre, I'm mountain biking, spending time with my family, running and socialising. I have a Discovery 5 HSE Lux with pretty much every option ticked. This is my first ever Land Rover. Been a rocky road with regards to reliability but we're getting there.

So far issue free and 💯 % happy

This is my 9th LR product and 4th Disco. Only my D3 gave me issues requiring a new engine at 2.5 years old.

Sum total of problems = 0
There are a few smells but that's through it only having 250 miles on the odo, this is already reducing.

Taking into account the previous vehicles owned:
    Discovery Sport HSE (16.5MY) 13000 miles = 0
Discovery Sport HSE Lux (16MY) 20000 miles = 1 DPF pressure sensor warning light, replaced by LR assist
    Freelander Metropolis (15MY) 19000 miles= 0

Now if you consider "self-inflicted", the score changes and is all based on over enthusiastic driving and ripping holes in the tyres Embarassed

PS: Huxley, great colour choice Thumbs Up

This is why I am never an early adopter, particularly with JLR.

Most of the tech is already fitted to current cars in the range, which is why I don't have any worries about being an early adopter.

I've had more problems with my D3 at 2 years old than all the rest put together.

    1x D3 - problems
    2x D4 - no problems
    3x Fl2 - no problems
1x Evoque (from launch) - no problems
1x DS (from launch) - no problems

It's not so much the issues that are bugging me but LR's method of dealing with them which seems to consist of utterly ignoring the customer.

I reached out to the twitter team after mine had been in the dealers for 2 weeks. I was asked to send then my VIN and email address which I duly did. 9 days later and I've not heard a peep from them.

    Hi,

Apart from a quick fix for the sticking tailgate ours is a dream.

SWMBO loves it - has cracked 1000miles now and no issues (that I know of).

"Touch wood" - with seven new and three used Landy products over the last 20 years we've had "no issues" that weren't quickly sorted - or "know issues" (D2 door locks etc)

We have a good relationship with our Dealer (Yeovil Land Rover) - we don't try and have it at "both ends" when we trade in and they look after us.

Off to see the Velar there on 2nd May - looking at options for next new Landy product in March 2019 !

    No issues so far.

I'd definitely go with the 1% thing. When you have an issue you feel the need to find somewhere to vent your frustrations and this forum is the leading owners forum so you'll probably see a disproportionate number of complaints on here.

Zero faults after 1500 miles and very very happy, no steering problems, no smells, even the brake lights are bright enough.

57 plate freelander - no issues and 38,000 miles
60 plate freelander (new SDS spec)- major engine issue in first weeks, solved by LR with no problems, then faultless for 68,000 miles
63 plate Freelander 85,000 miles, steering wheel switches went iffy at c 75,000 miles fixed on warranty.

Come in, the water is fine, if you look at other forums for other marques you will see the same issues......

    Don't worry
    Almost 20years of LR ownership
2 Freelanders (from new) and the only issue in 7.5 years was the rear window didn't drop (therefore the rear door wouldn't open) LR assistance tried on the phone and came out within 2 hours to fix it and explained what to do if it happened again. Wink

Disco 3 (12 months after launch) at pick up with the dealer dash lit up like a Christmas tree (back in the workshop for a 'hard reset') and left 30 mins later with an additional LR experience voucher, no further issues in the 5 years of ownership.

2 x D4's (one for 4.5 years and the other for 2 years) and zero problems, one recall for a crankshaft sensor replacement.

Now a D5 FE and on pick up day the infotainment system would not change page, I was late in the day picking it up and they could not resolve it before I needed to leave and so they gave me the sales directors D5 FE and delivered mine to me the following lunchtime Smile

Like any new car you pick up on some of the negative points versus the previous but on the whole there are significantly more positives than negatives. Permagrin (a favourite D3/4 forum statement) is reinstated Thumbs Up

    Cheers Phil

    Phil

Reading through you seem to have a good dealer there near Wigan & that isn't a light year away from where I am.
The Leeds & Bradford ones I'm giving a by-ball to & understand Huddersfield changed hands from Perry...which at another location bought my current Disco from
Dealers that do what they should with the customer would better than LR customer services that seem to be getting some adverse comments on here.
    Thanks
