Too much oxygen in my tailpipe MOT fail..pass

The D5 failed its MOT with an extremely high fast idle lambda reading.

The technicians spent some time trying to locate a leak in the exhaust manifolds or other connectors but gave up saying I needed to get a LR specialist to take a look. Nice of them to try I suppose.

Sat at home wrestling with the paradox of perfectly normal HC and CO figures and yet very high lambda ….with AI help.

After an hour, I had compiled a list of key investigations to discuss with the Indie on a hastily booked visit for next week….before the MOT expired.

While imbibing a well deserved coffee the phone rang…the MOT station.
Quite incredibly the next car on the MOT ramp also had a very high lambda.

Back for a retest with a different analyser….…PASS.

That’s another morning faffing about I won’t get back……but at least it’s good to know my tailpipe isn’t pumping excess fresh air into the atmosphere. Rolling with laughter
