Newbie to forum (please treat me gently)…

    Hi All

    Great to join this forum…

    Brief LR ownership history…

    Freelander 2 (MY07) - from new - 5 years
    D3 (MY06) - 9 years
    D4 (MY65) - current vehicle - 5.5 years

I’m currently looking at buying a D5 (MY68) from a local LR indie. It’s the garage owners vehicle (circa 66k) 3.0 SDV6 HSE Spec. It does have a new engine (from circa 30k) . Priced at £25.5k & been offered £8k p/x on the D4 (94k & which has an AdBlue tank fault + a damaged / scuffed NSR bumper probably caused by another vehicle (I know when it happened but not how?!).

Seeking some views / thoughts from all the wise heads on here about the change they experienced going from D4 to D5 & whether the above (£17.5k to change) seems par for the current course/market?

Appreciate I’m not a D5’ver yet, but I’ve loved both the D3 & D4 experience(s) and just contemplating whether to move on to a D5. Love my D4, but appreciate it’s now hit 10.5 years old etc. What are the good & bad experiences from changing from D4 to D5? I’ve read a few comments about comfort of D5 2nd row seats, original (D3/4 command driving position different in D5), slightly smaller load space etc. Would be interested to hear feedback….

(Mods - apologies if this is the wrong forum for this type of post…soz in advance if it is)

Should ask the question of the Disco3/4 forum. There plenty who say if you’ve got a good D4, then hang onto it. Some who went from D4 to D5 and back again.

    I went from D3-D4-D5.

Personally, I preferred the D4 from the split tailgate to the engine, but everyone is different.

As for your prices, a good late D4 generally is picking up more than an early D5, so I think the price differential is too much, but then I am not the one buying it.

    Welcome to the forum!

Loved my 2nd D4 (not my first, which was problematic), and had two incredible D5s since. Not looked back. Wasn't quite as keen on the driving position at first, after a test drive or two, as it felt a tiny little bit less upright, but as a long-distance cruiser, family wagon and commuter car each day, it's absolutely phenomenal and I genuinely believe one of the most underlooked cars on the market.

It lacks very few things, and my main gripe is just the lack of leg room space in the second row, if the driver's seat is all the way back. We're a tall family...

Find the right car, and you won't regret it. Stick to 3litre engines only.

Couldn't advise on pricing, as I don't follow them. But I've never had an issue with RVs at trade-in time. In fact, I've genuinely always thought mine had held value well and I'd gotten good money for it. But then, it's kept in showroom condition, literally.

Remember people often flock to forums to moan (as I did in a major way with my first D4), so you have to take the negative posts with a pinch of salt. Yes, they are unhappy customers (and almost always, for very good reasons they are p*ssed off), but it's hard to measure it as you don't now how many very happy customers there are also, who simply aren't the forum-type...

Look at the following D3/4 sister site link where there is a section specifically about the D5, There is a variety of comments.

    https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/discovery-5-l462-vf93.html

There is people on there with a lot of years of Land Rover owning experience and many thousands of posts.

    Ask them the same question?
