    Second Bite of the Cherry

    It seems ages since we viewed the New D5 at Solihull so we went up to Taunton LR today for their in-house demo. Went early at 1400hrs to avoid the "crush" so no idea how many people turned up for the Cheese and Wine gissits at the official time of 1630hrs

    The demo vehicle was a pre-production model and was very obviously well worn internally after its visit to so many showrooms and the electrics seemed to have failed just after we got there.

    Nevertheless, I still like the vehicle and I remain committed to continuing with my deposit/order as I reckon it will suit me and SWMBO just fine. Just hoping for a March delivery now but not holding my breath. Laughing I wish that they'd do a five seater so that there was some underfloor stowage possibility.

    An interesting snippet: TLR are limited to ca 47 D5's this year and 21 are already ordered and in the holding pool. Two more were being signed up this afternoon by the looks of it and TLR seemed to be anticipating that their slots would all be sold by this time tomorrow. Waiting times will therefore for go out to 9-12 months for later orders by the looks of it. Residuals will probably remain high.

    My delivery has went from estimated 8th March to late March but my salesman says it should be here before the new VED rates.

    Information from dealer principle, who's getting it from LR, whether I'm supposed to know is a different story.

    Perhaps dealers are being cautious with delivery dates because of the new VED?

    The demo car is at Exeter tomorrow, I will see what they say about first deliveries.

    Well, this what I was told by the LR person:-

    Q. The car at Exeter was black with Nimbus interior and I was keen to see a ebony interior.

    A. There are only 4 cars available to see in the UK and little chance of organising a time to see ebony.

    Q. When will a demonstrator be available to drive?

    A. In January, my salesman also said the first time he will drive one will be in January.

    Q. When will deliveries start?

    A.Spring, no firm dates available yet.

    Q. When will the press have a car to review?

    A. They are getting cars very soon!!

    2017 Discovery Td6 HSE Firenze Red

    Today - Yeovil LandRover viewing;-

    Farralon Black with Ivory interior - Spec level "Bitsa" - Bitsa 1st Edition (centre console) - Bitsa HSE Lux (RSE) - Bitsa everything else as a pre-production model.

    Questions:-

    1. Test Drives - ALL D5's (if delivered to Dealers) are "embargoe'd" till 13th Feb 17.

    2. Customer Deliveries - Those in "Holding Pool" may see them before 1st April - but don't hold your breath.

    3. Sales - Going well - Expect long waiting lists - post Xmas (ish).

    4. Is ICTP sorted - "As far as we know" said the "Man from Land Rover".

    1st Impressions:-
    Natural Successor to D4 - Yes.
    Spec to buy - 3.0V6 D - HSE - with extra's (but then again I'm biased).
    Colour to buy - Anything but Black - all the trim & design accents disappeared.

    Didn't like:-
    a. Slow seat fold (electric)
    b. Still have to 1/2 empty load area to access spare wheel winch ((if full)
    c. Offset rectangular number plate - Rectangular=middle - Offset = Square - It's a Land Rover thing !!!!!

    Are we still going ahead with SWMBO's order - Yes.

    Was I "bowled over" ........................NO!
