Does this make sense?
I have been badgering JLR to fix the Route Planner App as it has stopped working since I updated my phone and the OS was updated to Android 7.
JLR wanted me to drive my car away from the house and resync the whole Incontrol system, then reconnect the Route Planner. To this, I said ", I do not see the relevance of forcing a resync with the vehicle. The route planner is specifically a stand alone app designed to be able to plan routes when away from the vehicle. The search facility has nothing to do with the car. Also, the Remote app works perfectly well so there are no issues with synchronization".
Then they said: "Thank you for your response.
With regards to your response, the Remote app does not sync with the vehicle in the same way as the Route Planner.
The Remote app uses the servers to communicate with the vehicle whereas the Route Planner connects directly to the vehicle and uses the data from the vehicle. The Remote app does not sync with the vehicle for the information that it retrieves where as the Route Planner must sync with the vehicle.
In order to investigate and advise further, we will need you to please complete the steps requested to ensure that it is not a syncronization concern."
This all sounds a bit suspect to me but before I fire another salvo, I was wondering if any one with a better understanding of Incontrol apps than me thinks this makes sense.

Yes, I think it does.
InControl Remote and InControl Route use different ways to communicate with the cloud.
The former uses an inbuilt GSM communications system to pass vehicle data to the cloud, and receive data from it. The latter either communicates with your phone directly when you connect it to the vehicle, or via the cloud if you install a SIM card in the slot.
You will have noted that you have two separate accounts for these two systems.
InControl Apps is something different altogether, and connects to your phone directly.
Not sure about the synchronisation suggestion, but they may have a point!

Seems as InControl Remote utilises the Blackberry communications network

I just assumed that the places and postcode database was stored on the phone. What's being suggested is that in effect, the app wont work if there is no internet connection.

My sync works OK its just the search facility that doesn't work. I can create a 'push pin' and create a route to the push pin and send the route to the car.

So, I followed JLR's instructions (twice!) and it made no difference. I still have no search facility. No matter what, it always returns "we didn't find anything)!

Well if I put the phone in airplane mode and no WiFi then the app complains about having no connection.
If I ignore the message and search anyway then it finds nothing and suggest that I download the maps to the phone.
So..... I think you need a data connection or the maps downloaded to your phone.
How are you using it? with a connection or have you downloaded the maps?

I have had full network connection throughout the testing and, as I said before, everything worked perfectly with my Android 6 app.
I tried to download the map for offline use but couldn't see how to do it as it seemed that the map, being the base map had already downloaded. I guess I'll take another look at the manual download.
Cheers

what's also not very encouraging is that Google Play says the app hasn't been updated for over a year! I am really miffed considering how much has been paid for these "features".
I would love to hear from anyone who has got this working on Android 7 (Nougat).

After an exhaustive amount of pointless emails, JLR sent me this:
"We have escalated this further and it has been identified as a known issue with the route planner app and Android 7 software.
This will be fixed in the next update of the app which is scheduled for June. Please ensure that the updated version of the app is selected once available".
