I have an order pencilled in with the dealer to replace my unreliable beauty. He says 335BHP 6 cal diesel will be 400bhp in the Range Rover products. Said I should see it 3rd week October but it's all based on what they expect rather than know for sure at the moment.

When I'm not in the operating theatre, I'm mountain biking, spending time with my family, running and socialising. I have a Discovery 5 HSE Lux with pretty much every option ticked. This is my first ever Land Rover. Been a rocky road with regards to reliability but we're getting there.

Thanks Doc. It's a toss up between the petrol or new diesel units? What with the scaremongering with the diesel engines am hedging towards the petrol but the diesel sounds appealing, not to mention running costs. Rolling Eyes

    Stick with the diesel.

The Evoque and DS have just got the new engines for the 18MY, D5 shouldn't be far behind.

The new DS and Evoque engines are all 4 cylinder Ingenium, with for example the higher power output D5 2.0 engine finding it's way into those cars rather than the other way around so I am not sure it is any indication of new D5 engines.

Doc I do think your dealer may be spinning you are yarn on the level of certainty and timeline for Ingenium 6 cylinder, the Ford engine deal runs for some time if I recall and l would expect them to phase it in across the ranges and I suspect the D5 wouldn't be first on that list.

When I asked the same question I was told they have no timeline or information and given we knew more on here than most dealers pre D5 launch it just doesn't ring true that they would have such specific information in one dealer and silence elsewhere.

Did they know which year?! If they meant 2017 they are spinning you a great big yarn.

I don't mind how long it takes, with all the problems I have had with my car, the dealer has given me a guaranteed buy back price for October when, he says, I will be able to have a new 6cyl so it doesn't really bother me.

No axe to grind, and it maybe that your dealer is privy to information that is not more wildly shared but looking online (as I am interested myself, not because I am on a mission to argue), and all of the articles are from around the same time in April 2016, including the projected power outputs discussed then. I would have expected to see talk of test cars and even formal announcements if they are able to give you a very specific build date. Only thing I have seen is a disguised F Type that "might" have be an Ingenium Six prototype. Plenty of room in the engine bay to get it in so it may well be that the testing is just completely incognito, I would have expected to see more recent whispers on this than April 2016.

The Ford deal goes on until 2020, but it of course could be scaled back and they build other engines for JLR than the V6 Diesel.

I hope it is correct and keep us all posted, touch wood mine has been trouble free, but I may be interested.

I suspect that you need to add at least 12 months to the date suggested in the Car magazine article, maybe a little more.

The SDV8 would've been nice. I'm surprised how much space there is in the engine bay even with the 3.0

All questions I have asked. Apparently the TDV8 will go on until 2020 without a direct replacement as more power out of less cylinders and hybrid is the future.

My dealer is allowing me £100 depreciation per week on my current car and I dare say it's depreciating much more than than in real terms especially with all the options. If he's full enough to do that deal on an engine that's a year away then I'm cool with that 😉
