    locking differentials

I have a Discovery 5 Td6 with locking center and rear differentials. I have noticed, via the 4x4 screen, that the center and rear differentials are showing them locking every time when driving from a stop. Even when the road is completely dry and the acceleration is very slow. Is this normal? It is only up to about 10mph, but I would think that with no slip differential between any of the wheels that there would be no reason for the differentials to temporarily lock. I am concerned that this maybe putting more stress and wear on the drive train.
Anybody else notice if there diffs are always locking when pulling away from a stop?
    thanks

My Disco Sport does the same with its centre diff. It’s probaly to aid traction and kicks in regardless of road surface as until you start moving. The system will have no sensor input from the wheels until the wheels start rotating (or not if on slippery ground). Then once under way will unlock if not required.

    That’s my theory anyway.

Could indicate a degree of lock ?

    From Manual

“The differential lock symbols display increments to indicate the current status of the locking torque applied to the vehicle's driveline.”

My centre and rear do exactly the same thing.

Thanks for the prompt and informative replies. Glad to hear that this is common among D5 and normal operations.
