Kind of glad its happened to you as well as I thought it was just me.
I did some checking today and the DEF tank has a capacity of 18 litres.... so assuming it was full as part of there pre-delivery inspection that will be multiple visits to the Dealership for top-up.
You can check your actual mileage as per link below.
Thank goodness for the Service Plan as this gives you FREE Top-ups.
I'm going to ask for a couple of bottle to go away with to prevent having to go into the Dealership every 3500 miles...... what a pain.
My D4 had a 17 litre AdBlue tank which gave it a range of roughly 17,000 miles, it went a full year and was topped up at its first service.
3500 miles doesn't seem right, unless the D5 injects more into the exhaust system? I'll need to check the range on mine, I've got a 880 mile round trip from Fife to Romford on Friday.
Checked mine when I collected it and it said approx 4000 miles, allowing for a period of adjustment I would expect it to settle for about that. You can buy 10 litres of adblue for £10-12 so costs about the same as screen wash and probably lasts longer...
Sorry, but for me I don't see why people are unsure/confused/questioning about adblue. It wasn't that long ago that a litre of top-up oil would be needed to cover the same distance and would cost about the same. The key detail now is an electronic counter can give you an estimate of distance remaining... and not let you restart the car (bloody EU bureaucrats!!!!)
Usage profile doesn't differ much from other manufacturers either (so not just a JLR thing)
Now: 19MY Velar D240 HSE R-Dynamic
On order: 20MY Discovery SD6 HSE w. Dynamic pack
There is no problem filling it, it's just the difference between the D4 and D5 is substantial. This perhaps explains why I got a top up bottle when I collected the car. I'll check my range tomorrow.
Topped up today by my LR Dealer.......14.5 litres to fill it up......!!!
From the replies above I can only guess they don't come full from the Factory, The Dealer thought that they did and thus do not have it as a PDI check.
Anyway I'll see what the range says when I pick it up with a full 18 litres of fluid.
Yes it should be a user serviceable item and probably is. However if you take up the service plan from LR then AdBlue top ups by the dealer are included as part of the package.
