    Sim Card or not?

I am just starting to think about InControl and should I use a Sim card in the provided slot in the car or just use my data allowance on my phone.

I guess for the remote facilities it has to be a Sim in the car?

If you have no Sim and no phone, how much of Incontrol still works?

Has any one any experience of this in another car and can throw some light on the subject?

I never used a SIM card on my DS but then I didn't spec wifi. It was all set up by the dealer all I done was download Incontrol remote to my phone. All the features that I had worked.

    Interesting, hadn't thought of this.

I do know that the car has an inbuilt sim for calling emergency & Land Rover assistance, but not sure what else it does?

Exactly, there must be an inbuilt sim for those services, what other Incontrol services use that sim and which ones need your sim or data allowance from your phone.

J77, i have read the online manual and it does indeed tell you how to select your own dedicated sim or to use your phone.

But as far as I can see there is no description anywhere of which Incontrol service uses which component

Over on RRSport some of the guys with 2017MY RRS's reckon they need the extra SIM in the slot to use some of the satnav functions and the 360 degree view parking thingy,

As above you need it for the sat nav and live apps.

My doesn't have Incontrol Pro so that's one less thing for me to cock up Laughing

I also cannot find any explicit details of what you actually get without a sim.

InControl features, options and their availability remain market and powertrain dependent – check with your Retailer for local market availability and full terms. Certain features require the fitment of InControl Connect Pro and a Micro SIM with a suitable data contract which will require further subscription after the
initial term advised by your Retailer. Apple Watch® is a registered trademark of Apple Inc., registered in the US and other countries. Mobile network connectivity cannot be guaranteed in all locations. InControl Apps will need to be downloaded from the Apple/ Android Store, please contact your nearest Land Rover Retailer
    for further information.

Well according to the online manual you can connect to an external WiFi hotspot or use a Sim card.

Trawling through the RRS forum it looks like this is correct.

I think it just creates a wifi hotspot in the car using the external antenna for better reception as compared with using a mobile broadband device in your car.

From reading the manual, without a sim you will only get the basic Incontrol features, will still get nav but you need the sim for connected nav and live apps

    Incontrol Pro Services

    Connected nav:

    My commute
    Real time traffic
    Fuel prices
    Approach mode
    Online services
    Safety cameras
    Satellite imagery
    Street views
    Online routing
    Door to door routing
    Sharing expected time of arrival
    Cloud sync

    Live Apps:

    Weather, flight tracker, news feeds

All require the sim, without it everything listed in the brochure will work except the Incontrol connect Pro.

From what I understand, you can use your phones data for the connected Nav & Live Apps but it has to be plugged in, not just connected by Bluetooth?

    Am I reading/interpretating this correctly?

There are 3 choices in the connectivity options

    Create WiFi hotspot

    Use WiFi

    Use sim

Those are not the right names but that is what they are for.
