Is it regional now John ? The reason I query is that even if you haven't opted for timed \ remote the workshop manual certainly on the 2.0 shows:

    Quote:
5 Fuel Fired Booster Heater (FFBH) (vehicles without timed climate control)

    Confused

    It is market/spec dependent.

I don't have one. However the electric PTC heater deals with cabin heat up time - the engine just takes longer to reach temperature though:

"Depending on model specification and market, the vehicle may incorporate auxiliary heating in the form of a Fuel Fired Booster Heater (FFBH). "

Ah ...drat Laughing Apols to jimbg for any confusion Embarassed

Still, I suppose the app jim uses is as effective ..though unless it's on private land \ car park this bit is of concern.

There was a long debate on the RRS forum when the RRS2 was announced regarding the lack of FBH.

Also the concern about the legal aspect of the remote start.

When you have a stop/start system as a must with Euro6 you are definitely not allowed to start the engine in the stationary wagon. Better tell me how to get rid of stop/start system automatic On after the engine start. That thing kills me slowly.

ISTR the D4 HSE had the timed climate as standard from launch...you could opt for the remote at build or self install with an iid.

is your comment wrt to the D4 HSE - you have to spec if?

or is it confirming that a D5 doesnt have it as std.

Regarding the legality of the remote starting APP.

The car remains locked whilst Engine is running , so unless you have the key it cannot be stolen/ driven.

So it’s Legal (for UK )

Not sure that would hold any water ...the RTA only requires for the engine to be stopped and the park brake to be applied. No mention of locking.

    Quote:
Section 42 Road Traffic Act 1988 - level 3/4 fine - fixed penalty summary offence
Regulation 107 Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986
It is an offence for a person to leave or cause or permit to be left, on a road a motor vehicle which is not attended by a person licensed to drive it unless :-

the engine is stopped * and
any parking brake which is required to be fitted, is effectively set.
    * Exemptions to stopping engine :-

a vehicle being used for ambulance, fire or police purposes, or
a vehicle in such a position and condition as not to be likely to endanger any person or property and engaged in an operation which requires its engine to be used to :-
drive machinery forming part of, or mounted on the vehicle and used for purposes other than driving the vehicle, or
maintain the electrical power of the batteries at a level required for driving that machinery or apparatus.

The application of whether it's legal is held in the last paragraph IMO ...is the heater classed as "machinery or apparatus" ?? Smile

Arguably its the same as a reefer unit on a freezer trailer?

we have various local by laws out here that are intended to prevent vehicle engines being idled for excessive amounts of time. Not sure its ever enforced and remote starters are relatively common. Lets face it when its -20-30C it is nice to be able o get into a relatively warm cab Smile
