The mono turbo TDV6 in D5 has the same quoted peak power and torque as the SDV6 in the D4 although the torque curve is not as flat as the twin turbo SDV6, I've not noted any deterioration in towing performance D4 to D5 although only towing 1500kg. Suggests there's something amiss if really struggling, possibly an air leak somewhere, if there is would expect a fault code or 2 to be logged.

Yes its TD6 . If i had it in cruise control going up hill it well drop down to 30/40/ mph . When i come to a hill ,no c,c on its hard work foot full to the floor at times 3000 rpm max . Then very slowly it picks up by the time it gets to the top. Its had a service 2000 miles a go

No never have when towing . It may well be a gearbox problem.

+1 for using sport mode when towing on hilly roads. The car has effortless power to tow up hills, but it struggles to respond to gentle pedal inputs.

I recently bought a my18 TD6 and had similar issues and it ended up being a faulty intercooler water pump. Higher inlet temp restricted the boost to 15psi under load pulling my caravan.

My SD4 tows a decent sized caravan with no problems at all, I also agree that sport mode is good for the hills though!
