[quote="al cope"]My 2 ltr has stuffed it’s engine whilst towing across northern france. Thank god for caravan club red pennant breakdown cover. They got us recovered to a local garage, then got us and the caravan to a local site near Verdun so that we had somewhere safe to stay, and within 48 hrs had got us a replacement car out from the uk so that we could continue with our hols, and the D5 on a recovery truck back to the uk.
It’s now with a main dealer who’s saying it’s a new engine (38k miles on the clock) and they are awaiting LRCS to come back to them with what to do.
It’s fingers and toes crossed right now 😳

You can only do what you can to make sure they will look at your car sympathetically. From all accounts it should attract a FOC claim.
I suppose you either avoid a Disco or you accept it might happen.
That said, I’d get shot of it when I got it back and I wouldn’t go LR again. Shame, but there you are.
Stupid thing is I am actually thinking of buying another car in preparation for the engine going Pete Tong, how weird is that?

It’s funny you should say that as I had a nagging feeling something wasn’t right but couldn’t do anything preventative to stop it, other than changing the car, and I had been and test driven a Volvo XC90 but decided to leave it for now.

Result. LR are covering 100% of the cost of new engine plus turbo and all labour, so no cost to me at all. One very happy chap here 👍
Just a comment on the loan car. It’s a Ssangyong turismo 7 seater mpv. It’s got a 2.2 merc engine and 7 speed merc auto box. It weighs the same as the D5, has all the toys and tows our T/A van really well. It has loads of space and is a really comfy ride, and a bonus has been that I haven’t had a sort of motion sickness feeling that I have had after some long distance towing with the D5 (( it’s like you are still moving for a while after you have stopped). Apparently they do a 4x4 version as well. Would I buy one ( yes if I was a taxi driver), but no in reality. It does prove though that you don’t need a big 4x4 to tow with though so been an eye opener
With regards to travel and breakdown cover the £380 quid annual European cover from red pennant is the best money I have ever spent 👍

Great result. Really good to hear!
Out of interest, what does the Red Pennant cover that LRA doesn't cover?
2024 Defender 130 Outbound Dynamic HSE, Carpathian Grey
2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey, 2005 TDV6 D3, Cairns Blue 290K miler.

LRA will only take you and the caravan to the nearest dealer. Red pennant finds you a site, and recovery and/a replacement car so you can continue your journey ( which is what they have done for us)

Well it’s taken an age to get an engine delivered but finally got my car back with new engine plus turbo, and a new battery given how long it’s been standing, all paid for by LR, so very happy.
It’s really quiet compared with old engine so it goes to show how much cam chain rattle the old engine must have had.
Big question now is do I keep it or not
