    Insurance costs

I've just agreed to buy a 2019 Discovery HSE Lux from an LR dealer but the quote I've got from A Plan is £1866 full com for my wife and I with a daughter as named driver. Plus the excess has increased to £500.
Is this the normal sort of quote for a discovery costing around £52K?
    Seems very expensive to me.....

    It is.

I don’t know your details, claim history, postcode etc. but I suspect unless your daughter is older, then that’s putting the premium up.

My annual insurance is about £360, for SWMBO and I with LV. Full protected no claims, £250 compulsory excess, no voluntary. Clean licences etc.

Why don’t you do a quote with the insurance comparison sites? Works for me.

    Thanks Darras.
Yes, all drivers have excellent driving history so really cant understand it. Tried well known comparison site and , naturally, they come up at about £500 from Sheilas Wheels who I’ve heard of but no idea if any good if anything happens. I’ll keep looking.

LV look favourite to me as great reviews and reasonable rates.

A bit depends on the age of your daughter I’m guessing.
I pay approx £750 but that is any driver over 21 years old. Fully comp.

I’ve heard of Sheila’s Wheels. They seem to have a reasonable reputation. Anyway, this is their history.

“Sheilas' Wheels is a car insurance brand based in the United Kingdom that targets its insurance to women. The brand, named after the Australian slang term sheila for a woman, was launched in October 2005 by Peter Wood, and is part of Esure, the insurance group he founded with HBOS in February 2000.”

Unless your daughter drives your vehicle regularly, I’d try taking her off the quote and seeing what difference it makes. The likes of Veygo are very reasonable for insuring your car for people on an occasional basis.

So far Sheila’s Wheels and LV around £500. Interestingly, AXA quoted me almost the same online but through A Plan they quoted £1866! Something wrong there.

I've tried A-Plan a few times for quotes. They seem very nice on the phone and very apologetic that they have always been hideously expensive. I've never had higher quotes from elsewhere!

Try the comparison sites and then a few of the direct-only insurers e.g. direct line and NFU.

NFU can be very competitive if they like your postcode (rural is good, big city is bad) and personal profile but will be expensive if you don't fit their prefered demographic.

MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added
    MY2019 D5 HSE 3.0 SDV6 - sold to a dealer for a crazy price!

It makes no sense asking about insurance as there ares so many factors involved.

As an old codger living in Devon I have never paid over £250 fully comp for new cars including my current 2022 Sport that is listed at £82k.

2017 HSE now sold, if you own WF17AXN then you have a well sorted car!
2022 Range Rover Sport P400e HSE Dynamic and 2023 Sport P440e Dynamic SE on order

What company gave you full com for under £250? I think there may be a stampede to their door…..

General Accident wanted only £280. Same cover.
